Bama's Games (Home team in ALL UPPER CASE)
============
Saturday, Feb 21st
7:30PM CT/5:30PM PT #1 ALABAMA vs #8 Oklahoma (Wrigley Field) GameTracker
10:00PM CT/8:00PM PT #1 ALABAMA vs Hawaii (Wrigley Field) GameTracker

Games involving other SEC teams
=========================
8:30AM CT/10:30AM PT #2 Florida vs UNLV (Yankee Field)
8:30AM CT/10:30AM PT #9 Tennessee vs CAL POLY (DesMoines Field)
5:00PM CT/3:00PM PT #9 Tennessee vs OREGON STATE (Wrigley Field)
8:00PM CT/6:00PM PT OLE MISS vs #7 Washington (Yankee Field)
10:30PM CT/8:30PM PT OLE MISS vs Fullerton (Yankee Field)

The question is whether Bama and Oklahoma will go with their pitching aces as Bama's Kelsi Dunne and Oklahoma's D. J. Mathis each threw well over 100 pitches in late games on Friday. I suspect Amanda Locke will go in one of Bama's games tonight, but which one.

Bama leads both of today's opponents in almost every statistical catagory, but the Sooners did beat defending National Champ Arizona State last night and Hawaii beat the Sooners in the season opener.

I think Murphy will throw Dunne again vs Oklahoma. This is an important game and we need her to step up even though she threw a lot last night. In this game it will be vital for the bats to get cranked up. We will need some runs because Oklahoma is very capable of scoring themselves.

With Hawaii there are two lines of thought. (1) Locke has looked pretty good and she is rested but Hawaii plays everyone tough they are a fast aggressive team. (2) Morgan needs to get back on the horse and put up a good game; this may be her opportunity to due so. I think Charlotte gets the nod. She certainly did not throw enough last night to be tired and she may need it mentally.

Hawaii is no pushover, they will put pressure on us with contact and speed. In the end it may be up to our defense to dictate this game. We have to play error free D or it could be a long night, regardless of the pitching.

Murph might wait to see what the Sooners do. Mathis started and went 4 innings against Nevada today, so they may not start her again tonight (3rd game in less than 24 hours).

Hmmm, I guess that he will have to decide if the win is important enough to pitch Dunne. We have three good pitchers but IMO Kelsi gives us the best shot at the win.

OR maybe it is the time to put Charlotte in and get her head back. He is taking a chance there because if she isn't 100% ready the Sooners have a dangerous offensive game.

OR pitch the freshman and keep Dunne in the bullpen for insurance, which might work if OK doesn't have a first inning like UCLA did.

I still think he pitches Morgan against Hawaii. If her ball stays down she will be effective against them and she needs effective.

BUT, I sure am glad I am not the coach. This tournament is like a Super Regional; every game is a tough call and everyone has to step up and play the game.

Re: Softball - Cathedral City Classic - Day 3

We need to get some runners on and hit one out or to string a few hits in a row. This is when the bottom of the order has to step up. They have in the past, we shall see. Very possible with their freshman pitching. Dunne is pitching well on one day rest.

Re: Softball - Cathedral City Classic - Day 3

Way to go Monty...speed on the bases and power at the plate all 5' tall of her....

Good game by Dunne, 11 strike outs, three hits and two walks. Another good hitting performance by Larsen, she really is seeing the ball.

Man, we needed that. Big comeback, in the last inning, after the UCLA loss. Now we need to get Morgan back in the grove.
