Hello Tide fans. Just stopping by to see the opinions of Bama fans. I am not here to troll your boards and start threads just to tick Bama fans off. It is unlikely that I will ever start a thread on this board (besides this one), I will probably respond to posts and may from time to time defend my Vols.

I am a 100% hardcore Tennessee fan. I do like to see what others are saying. In the last couple of months the UT program has changed, quickly and drastically. There is excitement in the Knoxville area that we have never seen before even in the late 90s, when UT was on top of the college game.

I am a member of volnation.com. I visit there several times a day to get my UT fix and see what the latest rumors are.

CLK has been saying things and firing others in the conference up. I think it is awesome to see. He seems to be over the top sometimes, but the guy has confidence and swagger. I think he is as egotistical as Saban, Meyer, Miles, and a back in the day Spurrier. It is fun to see some excitement here, most of us are only hoping he can back up on the field what he is doing now. All the talk in the world means nothing if you cannot back it up in the fall.

Thanks for having me on the board, I look forward to seeing what Bama fans are saying.

Welcome to the board. It's a good thing to have different opinions on the board from time to time, IMO.

No offense, but it sounds like you have definitely been stuck in an East Tennessee bubble. Your new head coach is pretty much a laughing stock anywhere outside of East Tennessee. If this is the most excited your fan base has been since the mid 90's, then I'm afraid you all are in for a huge epic crash when the season starts.

Like I said, no offense, but this seems to be the dominating opinion of most people outside of East Tennessee.

Welcome to the board! Maybe CLK has one of these in hand now...

Well first off welcome. We are always open to friendly conversation with rivals. Now onto your coach. I'll be frank, yes he is confident, way too confident. You may say he's like Saban but when did Saban start calling out coaches in public? That is unprofessional and irresponsible. And I might even let him get off easy if he was say...John Gruden. Someone who has actually been successful as a head coach and has something to be cocky about. Lan hasn't even coached a game yet and he's talking like he's the second coming of Neyland. A little humility and modesty will get you a long way in life. Lane should exercise restraint and for the love of God learn the rules if you are going to accuse people of violating them. There is an old saying "don't write a check with your mouth, that your butt can't cash." RTR. :BigA:

Welcome to TideFans. Hope your visits are long and enjoyable.

All the talk in the world means nothing if you cannot back it up in the fall.

Agreed. But just remember that when Saban, Meyer, Miles, Nutt and Petrino all decide he needs a half a hundred or better hung on him. I'm sure Spurrier would love to join in the fun, but frankly, I just don't think he has the power.
I'm sure Kiffy's already caused the "don't run up the score" practice to be tossed out the window.

Welcome, VolFan1. We have several other Vol fans that post here, and I think you will find that as long as keep things civil then you will enjoy the conversations here. We are actually quite friendly with opposing fans that can keep their anti-Bama expressions to a strong minimum.

As for Kiffin, I live in Knoxville and my wife is a season UT ticket holder, so I tend to see both sides of UT issues. I was intrigued with Kiffin's hire, and was very curious what kind of coach he would be. But my wife and I are both very dissappointed. He loves to run his mouth and set very unrealistic expectations, especially for someone yet to prove himself. His attitude and mouth remind me of Spurrier at Florida, but with nothing to back it up. He comes across as childish and over his head. I have talked with SEC fans from various schools, and most tend to agree that he is quickly becoming the joke of the SEC and is an embarrasement to UT. I personally think he will continue to embarrase UT over the next few years, on and off the field, until the boosters get fed up and kick him out. The main question most non-UT fans have is how much of a joke will he make UT before he's gone. And its a shame. UT is school with a strong football tradition, and Kiffin seems to have no respect for it.

then I'm afraid you all are in for a huge epic crash when the season starts.

You very well could be right. Even Saban's first season was not great. As a Vol fan, I do expect a bowl game this coming season. If that happens, it will be progress from last season. we still have the same 3 QBs. Hopefully one of them can step up to the plate and be decent. For us on a positive note, Bama and Georgia will both have new QBs. I am sure Bama's defense will be awesome, just with a new QB on offense you never know.

1. You may say he's like Saban

2. Lane hasn't even coached a game yet and he's talking like he's the second coming of Neyland.

3. A little humility and modesty will get you a long way in life.

4. There is an old saying "don't write a check with your mouth, that your butt can't cash."

1. I say he is like those coaches when it comes to coming across as arrogant or cocky. Whether they are or not.

2. Agreed totally...I hope he can back his confidence up

3. True

4. Exactly

I'm sure Kiffy's already caused the "don't run up the score" practice to be tossed out the window.

I would say you are exactly right...and I think this season it could happen a few times. I hope it doesn't...we shall see

Welcome to tidefans man. This might not have been the best time to join another teams fanbase in the sec though, if you haven't already noticed,..... Kiffin isn't the most loved guy in the world. But anyways, enjoy your stay.

I don't think people here will be as patient with him as we were with Fulmer. I was a huge Fulmer supporter and hated to see him go. I know he is not a popular man with Bama fans. To me, Fulmer was Tennessee football. He had been the head coach since I was in high school. I hated to see him go, yet I know there needed to be a change.

IMO, I think Kiffin should have 3 years to turn it around. We will see what Hamilton and the boosters think.

CPF was a winning coach and had 2 bad seasons in 17 years. Since he is gone, I no longer have "a coach". I think the leash for CLK should be short. That said, his buy out is ridiculous....7.5 million now and still 5 million the last year of his contract. I do not really see them paying 2 buy outs plus the salary of a new coach. I think Kiffin will be here until CPF's buy out is done, unless he chooses to move on....which if that happens, we should be headed in the right direction.

That is the main reason I started looking at other boards. :)

Wow, I wasn't aware of his buyout being that large. That's kind of suprising considering he is only being paid a little over 2 Mil per year, and he has no college head coaching experience.

Welcome! Hope you continue to post here.

I also peruse VolNation. I find it incredible how the vast majority of TN faithful don't see what non-TN fans think is patently obvious. TN fans think our attention on Kiffin is because we're worried. Don't they understand that we're laughing?? Not nervous laughter, but real laughter that most Vol fans could be so gullible as not to see what's happening to their program.

TN has put together a great group of assistant coaches. I expect the assistant coaches to marginalize Kiffin rather quickly. I doubt he'll realize what's happening. IMO that's TN's best chance to have moderate success in the next few years.

Here's a comparison for you. In Coach Saban's first year, he told the fan base to be patient; he's putting in a process and it'll need time to work; complimented SEC coaches and programs; and in general kept a low profile and took care of business. On the other hand, Kiffin... well, you can fill in the rest.

Kiffin's pulling the chains of other SEC coaches was so unnecessary. As an LSU fan noted on another thread, Kiffin has created an environment where there can be collaboration (within allowable rules) by coaches of common opponents of TN. He didn't have to do that.

Outside of some adoring vol fans, Kiffin has pretty much made himself a fool of himself.

I'm not sure how short a real short leash he can really be on with the kind of buyout you mentioned. I do believe all the smack talk and arrogance will quickly wear really thin with the vol nation if he doesn't start to turn things around pretty doggone quickly.

You compared him to Nick Saban. I thank the Lord I just don't see any similarity.

Here's a comparison for you. In Coach Saban's first year, he told the fan base to be patient; he's putting in a process and it'll need time to work;

CLK has not promised anything here. He did make the statement about beating Florida and singing Rocky Top. As far as wins and losses he has not said much. He has said he doesn't know how many games we will win, but they will not be outworked. I am sure not being outworked could be argued.

Dude I don't even think Saban sleeps.

But I'll give you props VolFan you have been the scapegoat for a lot of frustration for Lane's ignorant comments and you have taken it in stride and stayed calm and given well thought out answers. You're okay in my book and I hope you stick around for a while. Next season should be fun.

P.S.- Referring back the comments on Fulmer. I hate Kiffin more already than I ever did Fulmer. Phil did a lot of good coaching in his day and Kiffin hasn't done anything and talks a lot more.

Welcome to Tidefans, we love well articulated opposing views on this board. I think LK's brash arrogant attitude is leftover from his time at USCandal where even at its worst that program is head and shoulders over all but one random PAC-10 team a year. I believe when he gets in season he will realize his error. He has a rebuilding project on his hands, something he never experienced at USC and failed with the Raiders. His tenure will be watched with interest around here to be sure. Congrats on swiping Myles and Richardson, at the same time those acts won you a giant bullseye from Tuscaloosa and Gainesville. One of those coaches I'm sure would hang 100 on you next year, and I'm sure you know which one.

Oh, and finally, if you're married I'd advise you to keep your wife a safe distance from CLT, just like CLK does.

I think you are right about his attitude. Thing is, when I have heard Pete Carroll speak, he does seem to have the attitude. You would think some of CLK's attitude would have come from him.

Wasn't "swiping" Myles and Richardson what we was supposed to do? I think it is a good thing if we has ticked others off by getting players. I don't think you become a great recruiter by playing a gentleman's game. As long as everything is done legally according to the NCAA, it is fair game.

I think CUM will score all he can against us next year...and I know he is not the only one. Hopefully our defense can keep us in some games.

As far a CLT...is that not pretty much the whole reason he is no longer at Bama? Other women :)

Can you imagine Coach Saban saying something like LK did about singing rocky top WHEN they beat florida next year?

No! Coach Saban drilled that "PROCESS" into all our bama heads and we really did a good job of believing it - we understood he was right, it could take time - of course then this year happened  - but also as the last game showed us when we lost a couple of key players in the Sugar Bowl - still a process in the works. I would think UT is going to be a little bit of a process too.

Saban said we would WORK 365 days to dominate our opponent (which he does, i don't think the man ever rests - as in getting that memphis recruit today hehe). And this is a coach who has WON a NC and been very successful already in the SEC. But still saying it's going to be work - and he is NEVER ANYTHING but respectful to any coach and any school he ever mentions.

Please don't compare Coach Saban to LK.

People are right, everyone outside of knoxville is laughing at LK. as Scarbo said "It's tough to go through coaching puberty in public, as Coach Kid proved again Thursday."

But welcome to the board!! :)
