Alabama vs Virginia Tech

I don't ever underestimate VT. Beamer and clan are great coaches and have a true knack for the come back. I've never seen anything like it. Bama can win, but it's certainly no lock. And I believe they will have a huge following in Atlanta. Their fans are RABID!

I will be there. I grew up in Atlanta so I can just stay with Mom and Pop. Also I know very few hokies infected with rabies. I also know very few violent hokies. Can you explain the rabid quote?

Very true. It is rather odd becuase we used to be undefeated every year in November and then collapse. Then 2004 happened. In 2004 we started with USC and played awesome but still lost. It was a very young team that played out of their minds until a bad pass interference call turned the game around, but I digress. We went on to finish the year strong.

In 2005 we went back to starting off well and fading a little at the end.

In 2006 we had a rebuilding year where we started out slow and picked up steam and had a good year.

In 2007 we started off very poorly and I believe it was becuase at that point in the season football was 2nd to the shootings.

In 2008 we had another rebuilding year that that is really hard to describe.

2009...well I have a feeling that it will be the best year of college football that I have witnessed. I plan on attending 10 games. I have not attended anywhere near that number before.

In 2007 and 2008 VT did not get off to the best start and then when the season was over, they won the ACC Championship both years. As I mentioned in a previous post, in recent years VT just seems to get better and better as the year goes along.

Both teams return a lot of starters. It should be a interesting game. I've not seen the 2009 college football schedule for the opening week, but I would think our game will draw the ESPN Gameday crew. My guess is both teams will start the year off in the top 10.

My favorite august quote is "now is that glorious time of year when all of our teams are undefeated."

I also wouldn't be surprised if both of our rankings were inflated to hype this game.

Tech fans are hands down the most enjoyable fans to be around on game day outside of Bama fans. I have never seen any smack talk or confrontations in all of my years of attending games. I love the team and fans... I really hate that they are playing us. Anything can happen, but it doesn't look good from this fans prospective. I hope Bama fans behave... The VT fans are so dang nice ya just gotta love um...
P.S. I agree the defense is solid and I love the similarities on coaching philosophy on both teams. I respect the heck outta Beamer and company. I have had a man crush on Bud Foster for years due to his great coaching and FIRE on the sidelines... Love um and love Tech.
Don't read to much into the Bama fans part about behavior... I know we have some fans that make a fool of themselves and those are the few I am alluding to. I have never seen "those type" of fans at a Tech game. It should be enjoyable for both sets of fans and I hope you guys love um as much as I do.

Thanks VirginiaTider! We just really have to make sure we treat Nebraska fans well when they come. As best as I can tell our fans were treated awesome in Lincoln, so its time we return the favor.

Welcome to the board man. It's always good to have respectful fans of opposition here. Lookin' forward to the game though...... what style offense is vt? Sounds like they and bama are similar and just try to pound you with their run game, and pass when they need to. Is that about right?....(i'm apparently not a religious hokie follower)

Very accurate observation. Beamerball is traditionally a style where we win with defense and special teams. On offense we try no to lose. In recent years the defense has just exploded to be just ridiculous. The special teams have been less special but still pretty good. The offense post Marcus Vick has been awful. The good news for tech fans is it looks like the offense is getting ready to turn the corner. If our OC can't put together a good offense with the talent that we have this year, especially at RB, that is just sad.

I've read several times throught he years that Nebraska fans are among the classiest fans you will find in college football.

There should be plenty of tixs for Bama fans. VPI does not travel that well.

VT fans will be there in full force. I can assure you that Tech fans travel well. We will be looking forward to this game and the expectation in Blacksburg is that this will be the one everyone is going to be attending. See you in Atlanta.

I have a feeling that both team's offenses are going to be very happy when they can leave the Georgia Dome. I have a feeling this game will come down to special teams and defense...and we're both solid in those areas, though VT usually gets more pub for their specialties in those units.

VT special teams have not been as special as they used to be. Part of the reason is the secret is out and everyone preps for our special teams. That works for us though as that is less practice time for everything else.

The thing I've always respected about VT is that they make you come out there and "win it." They aren't going to win the game for you with mental errors and turnovers. Tech isn't explosive offensively, they are going to pound it for small gains early and force you to defend it. I'm worried about Tyrod on third and longs, actually. It's nice to have a guy who can run for first downs on loose plays when you seemingly have them in a bad situation. When we do get you guys in third and long, we have to play good contain while still closing on him before crossing patterns come open. Tebow put us in that position all night in the championship game. You want to rush him, but if you don't get to him...it's probably a third down conversion run. If you play contain, the crossing patterns can exploit the defense.

Taking my fiance to her first bama game this year... Should I choose the VT game or wait for a home game?

Nothing against VT and I'm sure the game would be a lot of fun to go to but, nothing compares to a big game atmosphere at Bryant-Denny. I'd wait for one of our bigger conference home games if I were you (assuming you could get tickets ;))

Go to this one!! Here are a few reasons why:

I LOVE BD and going to TTown, but if it happens to be raining at a different game at least you're in doors for this one. It will be COOL and LOUD!! The fans who attend this game are BAMA FANATICS!!! Ones who will pay almost any price to see their TIDE start out another season of trying make it back to the Dome in Dec. I've been to some games @ BD where I couldn't tell who the people in front of me were pulling for. I thought, why did they come?? On the other hand that's not the norm for the BIG games. I'm not sure how they distributed tickets for the Clemson game, but the Dome LOOKED 50/50 right down the middle. To see the stadium half Crimson and half Orange was amazing. It will go down as my 2nd favorite game I've attended (after the 92' SECCG, haven't been to a MNC game yet). You can take MARTA right to the Dome from almost anywhere in the Metro Atlanta area, with thousands of your fellow Bama fans from all over the South. It was an amazing day and to beat Clemson to a pulp was icing on the cake!!

Definitely go to this one! The Hokies will make it worth while.

disregarding the vt-bama game... what do y'all think your chances of going undefeated in the regular season are? Looking at your schedule i see 2 teams that standout...ole miss away and lsu at home. Anyone else that could potentially cause a blemish? (again...besides us)
