With the VT game being less than a week away I thought it would be fun to ask a question about the game everyday until kickoff

With VT's priority being to stop the run, how many total rushing yards does Alabama gain ? Remember, QB sacks take away from the total rushing yards.

I know the Oline is a mystery right now but I think they will do well with the run block and I don't see the RBs having any trouble with the power running game....150-200 yards.

I picked "between 150 to 200." I think it will be closer to 150 than 200. Virginia Tech is going to make us pass to beat them, but I think we need a healthy rushing output to win this game. I don't see us winning with a total rushing yards output around 100.

That being said, stats can be deceiving. We could have one run that we bust out for 60+ yards, and rush for around 150 and have under 100 total for the rest of the rushes...and that probably won't be a recipe for consistent offensive success. I think the better way to think of it is that if we average about 4 yards per rush, we're probably going to win. If we start getting under that, we're probably in for a tough one. If we get into the 2.something ypc...we probably lose.

Va. Tech has a very, very good D-Line. If we gain 150+ yards that means we beat them in their one clear advantage going into the game. If we do that we win handily. However, I'd say it'll be more likely around 120-130 yards, max. They have one of the best D's in the country, and it's the first game of the season. If we win this game it will be because of OUR D and their lack of offensive fire power. I still say Bama 24 Va Tech 19.

I voted 100-150 yards because I believe we will attempt to establish the run but use the passing game to spread it around also. If the run is successful then I don't see us going away from it, which could mean 200+ yards (that would be a thing of beauty).

If I had to guess at a breakdown I'd say Ingram gets 80-100 yds. and Upchurch and Richardson/Grant account for the other 50-75 yds. I hope we can establish the run rather early cause that will really open up the passing game.

But as I said, because I'm old-school, I would be very happy with us pounding the rock all night long. Gonna be hard against this VT defense, though. But hey, that's our style, right? Anyone, anywhere - punch 'em in the mouth and impose our will.

I voted 150-200 most coming in the second half after wearing them down with a stready rotation of running backs. Ingram 100+. Upchurch 100+ with the running and passing yards combined.

i think ru will surprise people the same way gc did last year. no one thought in 07' that gc would have the numbers he did in 08'. i think we may see the same in ru. i'm sure he wants to go out on top the same way gc did.

Delusional? UA was the team that allowed <75 yds rushing a game last year. Va Tech allowed over 100.

How is that delusional? Sounds like you've got your defenses mixed up.

VT without their top RB adds pressure to Taylor and allows Alabama ball control via our Defense and lack of weapons for VT. VT keeps talking defense and that is true but Alabama is the King of the D. 150 ground yards this game belongs to Alabama's. Alabama has a good offense and the weapons to win. :BigA:

Here are some stats to help out

Aug. 30 East Carolina 158 #84
Sept. 6 Furman 34
Sept. 13 Georgia Tech 278 #4
Sept. 20 at North Carolina 127 #89
Sept. 27 at Nebraska 206 #37
Oct. 4 Western Kentucky 148
Oct. 18 at Boston College 150 #63
Oct. 25 at Florida State 82 #33
Nov. 6 Maryland -12
Nov. 13 at Miami 77 #78
Nov. 22 Duke 116 #103
Nov. 29 Virginia 172 #108

Freaking Duke had over 100 yds. They were ranked #103 in the county in rushing offense. I still say we have 150 yds against them.

I hope all our backs have an outstanding night carrying the ball. This goes without saying that the O-Line will have to make the holes and lanes for them. Then that will open up the pass game and then bruise em through out with a steady does of Ingram and company.

Bud Foster runs a bend don't break D so we force you to take the short runs short throws make you work for all your yards, but once you get inside the 30 that's when things tighten up

There was another coach at Alabama that ran a "bend but don't break defense".He said something once about stopping that little inside trap.Best thing to do is to run right at it.Bama gets 150 plus.
