I'm 21 now and have been lucky enough to have been to 3 Florida-Bama SEC Championship games and 1 Florida-Bama game in the Swamp but this will be my first trip to Tuscaloosa so looking for some suggestions on what to do! My mom got the tickets so I'll either be going with her or if she decides she doesn't want to make the trip, a friend my age so I'm trying to figure what's best to do for either scenario. Also, the tickets are in section NN, row 57, does that sound like the visitor section? Thanks in advance! Can't wait for Bryant-Denny, most likely under the lights.

The first thing you do when you get to Tuscaloosa is give your tickets to me. :D

Honestly, just walk up and down University. You'll be on the strip and then all the tailgaters will be on the Quad. Another suggestion you'll get is to go the Bryant Museum.

One popular thing to do in Tuscaloosa is to lose to Alabama...

Seriously, do not eat at Dreamland. Eat at Moe's BBQ in downtown T(itle) Town. If you want to learn some of our history, you can check out the Bryant Museum, across the street from the baseball stadium and Coleman Coliseum. Whatever you do, hope you enjoy the town.

If given the choice between bar-b-que or the best wings ever made, I don't see how wings could ever be turned down. I know we always talk about bar-b-que, but seriously, it's not the greatest food ever invented. I know I'm probably sinning my ... off right now, but don't go to a bar-b-que restaurant. Go to Buffalo Wild Wings, I'd rather go there any day.

Also if you do come with a friend your age, and if Alabama wins, don't be a Gator fan that night. You're 21, you're the perfect age to visit T-Town. Bring an extra set of clothes, non-gator, and live it up for one night. If Alabama wins, T-Town will be absolutely rocking. You wont have to go to bed before 6AM unless you choose to. Opportunities like that don't come around very often.

I agree. Don't eat at Dreamland. I wasn't able to get around to eating at Moe's, so I can't comment on personal experience. My favorite gameday Bar BQ is Big Bad Wolves on the strip. They set up outside The Houndstooth. Great food.

If he wants wings, he should go to Buffalo Phil's, not BWW, which I'm sure he can get where's from since it's a chain. Or he can go to Wing's, which is owned by a former Bama player.

You definitely need to spend at least 30-60 minutes just walking around the quad and taking it all in. You will run across several Gator tailgates I am sure...so they will be glad to have you stop by for a drink or bite to eat. There will be hundreds of TVs out there with ESPN Gameday on (whether it's in Tuscaloosa or not) so you could watch it out there as well.

If you like beer or an occasional drink...go to the Strip (University Blvd) and stop by the Houndstooth. It was voted the #1 college sports bar back in 2004 I believe. It's been torn down and rebuilt...but still a college football fan's dream when it comes to a sports bar. They also have some decent BBQ right outside if you don't feel like walking downtown. It's probably not as good as Moe's but when you are starving or need to cut the alcohol intake...it does great.

There is also Gallette's which is on the Strip but closer to the stadium than the Houndstooth. You won't see any signs...so just ask someone where it is and they will show you. Go there and get a Yellowhammer.

Best thing is to just have fun and enjoy quite possibly the greatest college football gameday experience in the nation. Other schools do things similar to the way we do it...but we do it better...and we do everything. Band marches to the stadium...players have a grand entrance to the stadium...the Quad is more exciting than the Grove...etc. Because the atmosphere is so amazing we usually get a large number of visiting fans because they love it too. So you should see a lot of Gator fans in town to chat with and all that. Just remember to have your fun before the game because it might not be so great afterward...just ask the ones who were there in 2005.

Yeah, but BWW is the largest buffalo wing chain for a reason. They can't be beat. You don't eat at a local place just because it's local. You want the best food around, you go to the place that serves it, chain or not.

I don't know about that one, Big. As awesome as the Quad is, the Grove is unreal. I couldn't believe it. As Ole Miss fans say, "We might lose the game, but we'll win the party." (Or something like that)

I disagree. When I went to Atlanta a few weeks ago, I ate at a local place instead of somewhere I can eat at home. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

I say forget a restaurant and just grab a bite to eat on the quad - there's bbq...and sit down on the grass, eat and tidefan watch, and watch some football games on people's tvs :)

I am soooo ready for gameday!!!!

and i always recommend the Bryant Museum. and see the Walk of Champions and the rest of our glorious stadium!

If you're willing to go eat food that you know isn't the best around, that's your choice. I'm not saying local restaurants aren't the best, but a lot of times they're not. There's a local place where I'm from called "Hamburger Harolds," and they serve the single greatest hamburger known to man. Been open for 50+ years and they didn't get a sign or a phone until about 3 years ago. They still use the same griddle to cook the burgers on as they did when they opened. I've brought friends from all over and they all agree, it's the best burger around. If it weren't the best burger, I wouldn't eat there, it's that simple.

Baumhower's Wings is a pretty good place, although I've been a few times when I've gotten soggy wings, or cold food. I've never been to a Buffalo Wild Wings and been disappointed. When I pick a restaurant, I pick based on how much I like the food. Why would you not eat the food that tastes the best if you have that choice?

well i went to T-Town last weekend to take my little sisters to school :( - we ate at Full Moon BBQ on the way out. SOOO GOOD! I've never been to Moe's in Tuscaloosa, but there is one here in Orange Beach. I have eaten there and it's pretty good.

My sister ate wings at Buffalo Phil's one time - and she will never go back, she said they were tiny and no good.

I'd say eat somewhere on the quad or strip - for atmosphere.

Funny, every BWW I've ever been to has had horrible wings :conf2:
That's fine, everyone has different taste. I guess my point was, I just get tired of hearing the same old story everytime someone asks what there is to do in town.

We all know there are restaurants. Every town has restaurants. There's very few meals I remember in my life. One thing I may find delicious, someone else may find repulsing. I remember places. When someone asks what there is to do in Tuscaloosa, I guess I'd just find it refreshing to see a list of things to actually do in Tuscaloosa, not simply where to eat, or where to grab a beer.

How about the Alabama Stage and Screen Hall of Fame or the Alabama Museum of Natural History? At least it's something different than food :)

When a person goes out to eat, he/she runs the risk of having a bad meal, whether it be at a 5* restruant or some no name place. OTOH, the person can also get the best meal of his/her life. One of the best meals I've had was at a small place in Bisbee, AZ. One of the worst meals I've had was at Long Horn two weeks ago.

Bamagirl, Phil's doesn't have great wings, but their buffalo fingers or chicken fingers are great. It has great atmosphere too.

Is the micro brewery still downtown? It was a cool place, but that was 15 yrs ago. And am I the only person that loves Taco Casa?
