I saw that crap too. I guess he thinks we lost to many on defense. Brian Griese thinks we will go undefeated in the regular season tho. Who knows, it is like the weather (they have a good idea, but can't be for sure).

Thats why the game is played. No one (not even Bama fans) know how this season will play out until it does. This is the SEC and anything can happen on any Saturday. Since 2000, 5 different teams have one the SEC with not a single one of them repeating as champs of the league. Now I'm not saying we won't win it, but there have been more talented and experienced teams than we are this year that have come of an SECC and not repeated. That just shows how talented and deep this league is year in and year out.
We have all the talent in the world on defense this year but that does us no good if they don't know what they're doing. Mainly the secondary.
with that said, I expect us to win the west (as I do every year), but I won't be suprised if we don't mainly because history of this league has taught me to be prepared for anything.

The way KH said this prediction though was like "Look what a limb I'm going out on, what if I'm right?" As if he didn't even believe what he was saying; in fact, he'll probably say something different very soon. He even kind of contradicted himself, picking UGA as his "dark horse" team. If AU wins the west, they would be the "dark horse" team, not the team most people are picking as #3 in the league.
He's just trying to stir the pot so that it doesn't become a full-on lovefest from ESPN and turn off other viewers. You have to think, if the big preseason TV special was watching USC or Texas, you'd be sickened.

Herbstreit has always been big on looking at schedules to do his rankings, I think other than AUB's game at BAMA AUB's schedule is very favorable, and I wonder if that is what he is basing it on...
on a pure talent level AUB is probably the 5th best team in the league after Bama, UF, UGA and LSU...maybe 6th after Arky...

Aubie finishes 4th in the west at best and they have to go TO both Miss schools FWIW.
7th behind South Carolina. Auburn has had some pretty poor classes where the best players didnt make it on campus. Spurier has been recruiting over USCe's head for a while now. Auburn's best class in the past five years is easily the one that just got on campus.

Contrary to popular belief, journalists, sports writers, hacks, etc. do not have to sign a letter stating that they will pick BAMA to win the SEC, the National Championship, etc. every year. They are actually allowed to pick other teams, and they don't even have to give reasons if they don't want to.
