Re: Multiple sources: Urban Meyer will step down again

Well this whole scenario surprises me.

I hope Meyer doesn't have health issues remaining.

But I honestly think it's a case of simple burn out.

It can happen.

Re: Multiple sources: Urban Meyer will step down again

I think Mullen is the clear favorite here. But, if I am Florida, I will still make the obvious call to Stoops. But, if I had any suspicion that he would stay for more than 3 years, I would also make the call to Jim Harbaugh. You are Florida. You have one of the truly elite programs in the country. Make the call, and offer him anything that is realistic. I think he would be a killer at Florida.

Harbaugh's offense wouldn't work with the players currently at UF. They have no power running game players.

I don't think the announcement about the new HC at lizardville will be long in coming, whoever they hire.

I hope that didn't sound accusatory, me asking what rant off meant- I didn't mean for it to if it did.

Not at all...I didn't take it that way...:)
Just figured mine sounded like a rant and it kind of was...

Neither does Michigan and he seems to be the most popular name if RichRod is not there next season.

Malzahn will not be a serious candidate. No way UF hires anyone's assistant and especially one that was coaching Springdale HS five years ago. They will hire a sitting head coach, bank on it. Probably Mullen.

EDIT: If I were Jeremy Foley, I'd back a Brinks truck up to Chip Kelly's door.
I think if/when the barn blows Oregon's doors off, we will see that Chip Kelly only looks good because of his competition. Remember, Masoli was a world-beater at Oregon. We've all seen how he's performed in the SEC...
We'll never know if Kelly could cut it at UF, because he'd be a fool to leave Oregon right now. Phil Knight and Nike make sure the Quackers have everything they need, and the PAC-12 is basically cannon fodder for the next 5 years. With USC crippled by sanctions, UCLA unable to get out of the basement, and Harbaugh likely moving east soon, who is going to challenge Oregon for left coast supremacy?

Chip Kelly to Florida would be like taking a step up just in time to get your head chopped off.

True, but if Mullen does go, Malzahn would probably be a serious candidate at MSU.

Great point. Ties into my point that the PAC-whatever just isn't that great of a conference and it's easy to look like a genius out there...

Re: Urban Meyer to Step Down - AGAIN?

I dont see Stoops leaving OU. They dont want him gone and he didnt jump at the chances before so I'd say its 100% sure he stays at OU. I say Mullen takes the job, if not who knows but he'd be crazy NOT to go. He finds the right QB they are dangerous again.

I would have to agree with that. Malzahn has the style points with recruits and will be in the SEC for his first HC job. Not shabby.

The only drawback to Mullen is that he's not a completely "proven" HC. His record this year was on the high side for MSU, and everything else stays the same if Mullen moves to UF. It really depends on what Foley wants; if he offers Mullen, he'll be packed in record time.

Re: Multiple sources: Urban Meyer will step down again

I'm surprised some of our more conspiratorial fans haven't explained this resignation as the result of some yet-to-become-public allegation about Cam Newton's time at Florida that will sink the Gator program for good.

Seriously, I think Foley takes his home run swings (Stoops, Petrino, Gruden, maybe Harbaugh) and if nobody bites--and I think one of them would/will--then he turns to the base hit guys Mullen, Charlie Strong, or Mike Stoops who would take it for sure.

Re: Multiple sources: Urban Meyer will step down again

Something people has to understand, I think Foley asks Meyer which coach fits the athletes better because that will be a HUGE factor. Bring in Stoops and he has to re-tool the offense and that will take a few years because Urban doesnt have the typical WR's Stoops wants with big RB's that can carry 20 times a game, Petrino could possibly ruin his image if he leaves again, Gruden wont coach again, Strong doesnt have the success to back him up like Mullen does, and Harbaugh I think stays at Stanford.

I hear Finebaum is saying that the Cam Newton fiasco had something to do with the Meyer (second) resignation. :rolleye2:
