Phil Simms confronts Desmond Howard about son at UT (Simms Apologizes)

Re: Phil Sims confronts Desmond Howard about son at UT

If he's as good as Desmond says, I hope he starts against us.

I don't think Phil's approach is going to make Des talk any better about his son.

Re: Phil Sims confronts Desmond Howard about son at UT

Interesting, Phil Sims has been critical of players in the NFL but he doesn't like it when Howard said his son was 1 of the 3 worst QBs in the SEC.

That's disappointing. Although objectivity seems to go out the window when it's your son. He should have just ignored him though. A close friend of mine is the son of the Texas defensive coordinator from 1998 to 2003. He has no problem telling people that Chris Simms cost the longhorns the title. He said that you can't imagine the drama stirred up when Major Applewhite was benched for Chris. He also said that Phil is one of those dads you don't want around the program.

Re: Phil Sims confronts Desmond Howard about son at UT

I can appreciate Sims wanting to defend his sons honor, he is a father first. As for Howard, I do not feel he should have made this a public issue. To bring it out in public like this makes him sound like a drama queen.

I love it when old guys think they can take on younger, obviously-in-better-shape Heisman trophy winners. I wish he had taken a swing at him. How you reckon that would've turned out?:biggrin2:

Phil Sims was the one who made it a public issue first... you know... wanting to fight Desmond Howard at a Super Bowl expo.

But isn't it his job as an analyst to make his opinions public?

Howard is just doing his job as an analyst. He has been critical of other players and what make's Simms so special?

There was another instance where Steve Young criticized the toughness of Chris Sims once. Phil roasted Young for questioning Chris' toughness (Although in the comments, Phil said he doesn't mind criticism of any other aspect of Chris' game). Steve did back down, but still... it's obvious Sims is a bit sensitive to the way his sons are covered. I'm guessing they all have heard the "You're only playing here because your last name is Sims" line before, and it's a valid argument.

Re: Phil Sims confronts Desmond Howard about son at UT

If Phil Simms didn't see SOME truth in what Desmond said, he wouldn't have gotten that defensive. I mean, geez. It happened months ago and Simms just decided to confront him--publically and not privately like he said. He was at a Super Bowl Expo for pete's sakes!! What a whiny, Craig James-like dad. If your kid sucks, get him a private QB coach and don't threaten someone who has an HONEST opinion!!

Re: Phil Sims confronts Desmond Howard about son at UT

Phil - get over it - the truth hurts sometimes. Not everyone gets to be an astronaut when they grow up.

Re: Phil Sims confronts Desmond Howard about son at UT

Well, it would make sense. None of his kids have made great QBs. The only reason Chris made the League was his father's name. He was a total bust.

Re: Phil Sims confronts Desmond Howard about son at UT

does anyone here watch "Inside the NFL" on Showtime? if so you will know that Phil is a major .... um it rhymes with Stick.
