I guess my question is, what should we have done? How should it have gone? In your justice system, what would you do differently? Was justice done? No. Did the justice system work exactly as it should? Yes. Better Casey Anthony go free than lynch mobs and media circuses decide guilt and innocence.
1) Collect evidence (done)
2) Build a case against the likeliest suspect (done)
3) Charge the suspect with the crime you can prove (questionable)
4) Prove that the defendant is a despicable human being (done)
5) Prove that the defendant is guilty of the crime he/she is charged with (questionable)

#4 was more important to the prosecution.
#5 was apparently more important to this jury

I agree with what you are saying. It is not a perfect system but it is the best system in the world, IMO. The biggest thing I did not like about this trial (other than quite possibly the jury) was how the defense attorney said the things about her father that he had no proof of. I do not know if it is true or not but when he made the statement about the type of sex that would take place before Casey went to school seemed a bit much to me since he had no proof of it. If my sister was on trial and her defense attorney said that about our father, I would be in jail for contempt of court after the outburst I would have had.
If I was a reporter and I interviewed the Baez fellow, I would point blank ask him why he made the comment and did he have proof.

I agree. It seems that the media and others forget that there is a burden of proof placed on the prosecution. As bad as I hate to see someone who obviously had something to do with it go free, the thought of putting someone to death based on emotions and the theories of probability is just as sickening. The prosecution should have either provided a more convincing case or pursued a more certain conviction of a lesser offense.

No better example of the silliness surrounding this trial: 'Caylee's Law' petition drive: Do missing child laws need to change? - Yahoo! News

Petition drive to get two new Federal crimes on the books for parents who don't report their kids missing or deceased within a certain time frame.

Over-react much? Here is a good alternative: Why not do a better job of prosecuting people who look to be pretty guilty all by themselves?

This is the kind of knee-jerk response that gave this country the infinitesimally-stupid "Department of Homeland Security".

I say we settle it with a cage match between Nancy Grace and Casey Anthony. I believe ol' Nancy can take her.

I heard today that Casey will be moving to Houston, Texas after she's released. She better be careful who she murders there, cause Texans don't put up with murderers out there.
Ha! That's an interesting choice for her. Apparently she doesn't know how strict Texas is.

I say we somehow get her a date with Joran Van der Sloot. That might rid us of her existence once and for all.

something has been bothering me about this for a while- the meter reader dude who found the body. first he supposedly sees some random bag or sack out in th emiddle of a swamp even though you cant see it from the road AND it must be muddy as hell AND supposedly the bag was buried. he then feels so strongly about it that he calls the cops. the cop slips in the mud, cusses him out and leaves before ever actually looking for the bag. this guy then waits a couple months before going back to the spot, either picks up the bag and the head falls out, or picks up the skull with a stick (his story keeps changing) and then finally calls the cops and they find it.

doesnt that seem a little odd to any of the rest of you?

As a former prosecutor, I can assure that #4 without #5 gets you nowhere.

A HUGE problem is that the prosecution could not prove that the child was murdered, only that she died. It is nearly impossible to get a murder conviction if you can't prove that a murder occurred. When I heard before the verdict came out that there was no clear evidence of cause of death, I expected an acquittal.

Caylee's Law would be totally unfair. I mean, you have to give a parent time to actually notice that their child is missing. 31 days seems reasonable.

I once went 3 months or better before I noticed I was missing my long-handled phillips head screwdriver. So....you can't always just 'notice' something is missing.
