Kirby Smart at Tennessee?

I'd think they would give Dooley at least 4 yrs before they made a decision one way or the other (its not like the cupboards were full when he got there). Switching coaches every couple of years will insure mediocrity.

Do we have to start this already :( Surely TN would go after a head coach .

Derek Dooley must stay at UT for a few years, If they fire him they won't get a decent coach bc no coach that has options (ala Smart) will go there bc being fired after one year is pretty much a career killer even if the cupboard is a barren wasteland.

Smart might go somewhere else. Texas maybe if Mack Brown ever steps down but not UT until another 3-4 years. Though by that time I expect him to be a head coach some where or the HCIW @ Bama. (i'm kinda hoping Bama, Saban is getting up there in years and has often said he is a proponent of the HCIW)

I've never understood this and I'd like to see some empirical evidence of it. I'm not arguing with you, mind you...just curious.

I guess if I'm an AD and I've somehow messed up and hired Peter Griffin or Homer Simpson as my head coach, I get rid of them ASAP so they don't do any more damage. Not sure if Dooley fits that bill, but Tennessee is pretty awful and they just don't seem to be playing with the fire they were when Kiffin was there, believe it or not. I'm sure their shower discipline is better, so there's that...

A couple of my UT friends have been posting this on FB. It's actually a pretty good read on the explanation of their downfall. If they can get this spread around, I think the writer might be right. And then we get to keep KS. :)

If Smart goes I would be happy to have Dooley on the staff. He is a hell of a coach and has UT on the right path. It isn't his fault if the turds can't see that.

My preference would be to keep Smart on staff of course, and he is a sharp enough guy to realize that if they are willing to torpedo Dooley after this year, he doesn't want to be there anyway.

I figure Smart is staying pat waiting for the eventual implosion at UGA. One or two more years under Saban wouldn't hurt as I feel Richt has lost all semblance of authority with his team these past few years. This season was a perfect storm of mediocrity in the east otherwise Smart could have bailed this year.

Hearing Tennessee has had it with Dooley due to being winless in the SEC this year. Would former Alabama Assistant AD Dave Hart make the call to Kirby Smart?

I can't see that. I suspect he gets at least one more year, but I think you can expect staff changes.

Ole Miss fans seem to think Kirby Smart is high on their list, but news in Arkansas tonight is that Hugh Freeze may be close to being hired.
