Picked up a 2013 commitment yesterday

I agree bamamick! , a very solid High School Baseball program. Not sure of the "Outlaw" comment above,

There isn't a better Coach to develop players than the guy at Russell County. I don't think there is any other program in this state that has put more players in College or MLB in the last 8 or 9 years.

What high school did the kid transfer from to get to Russell County? :cool2:

On a serious note, hope the kid comes here and does very well. We haven't had a whole lot of luck getting players to come from there and really do well here.

Tony Rasmus is the John Calipari of Alabama high school baseball.

You hit it on the head.

Yea no joke. I was talking to a well respected coach from the Birmingham area before we played them this year and he told me that it must be nice to get a transfer like Rock Rucker right before the season starts (a HUGE lefty that is a sick player, and sadly a barner now)

Also Webb led the team in average and triples which says enough when you look at the kind of schedule a team like RC plays every year. I'd say nice pickup.

Yes, it's truly amazing how the rural hamlet of Seale, Alabama has become this incredible hotbed of elite baseball talent. And Coach Rasmus, a real class act himself, is very fortunate to have so many families who just happen to have talented baseball-playing sons relocate to his district. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, though, as they'd never actively "recruit" players from elsewhere.

Here's hoping that Webb and Castillo become the RCHS products to actually have an impact at Alabama.

Yea JoJo I have family in Smiths and hear it all the time (none play any sports so that should tell you something). Now there is a ton of talent in the Phenix City/Smiths/Seale/Columbus areas it's funny all of them end up at RC to play for CTR.

Here is an example you probably already know about and/or will not surprise you.

ESPN did a profile on Rock Rucker and of course he was listed as playing for Redan out of Marietta Georgia (he was homeschooled during then or before or after I forget which).

Then from what I hear (not sure of exact date) the family picks up and "moves" roughly 140 miles to Seale Alabama to play for Rasmus and Russell County.

All in all though I'm glad we have some in-roads there as Rasmus is probably a better recruiter than Gaspard:biggrin2:

Really. I live in Baldwin County and really have no idea what the heck you guys are talking about, but personally I could care less. High schools across this state 'recruit' and have for a long time in all sports, and as long as it benefits the University of Alabama somehow then I am all for it. My own kids went to Daphne, and at that time Daphne was a baseball powerhouse. They had kids from all over Baldwin County playing there when Skoda was coach and everyone knew it.

From what I heard on the Rucker kid, he was getting zero attention at his inner city team in Georgia. He committed to Auburn before he moved to the state of Alabama, so hense, "In State Tuition"

So I think he was advised very well and Rucker recruited the Russell County Coach.

It happens everywhere! If parents have great football players they move to Prattville or Hoover

I thought Rucker was going to be a first-round pick, but he ended up not getting drafted. Must have been some signability or character concerns. He's a big left-handed arm and bat, but he was only Russell County's No. 3 (Castillo was 1)

I thought for sure he would have been drafted as well (not a first rounder) but it does make you wonder why he wasn't. Kid can sling it, but I think his future is in the OF.

A kid at Redan high school, in metro Atlanta, getting zero attention? That seems highly unlikely given that this is the same high school that produced current MLB players Brandon Phillips, Chris Nelson, and Domonic Brown. In 2011, Redan's shortstop was drafted in the 16th round, so someone was obviously scouting them.

I noticed today, we picked up another 2013 commit. Will Haynie, C, Brentwood Academy, Nashville, TN. 6'5 220. That's a pretty tall catcher. The article (blog) provided says he hit .413 with 15 HRs and 37 RBI last year, but the school's website also lists him as a pitcher.

Here's an article talking about it. http://blogs.tennessean.com/high-sc...academy-baseball-standout-settles-on-alabama/

Seems Vandy was high on this guy, so you can't use the argument that no other SEC teams recruited him. If this staff can coach like they seem to recruit, they would be alright.
