The good- How can it be anything other than our special teams. Christion Jones was a man amongst boys last night, and our kickoff coverage was johnny on the spot led by Landon Collins. I'll even throw a bone to Cody Mandell who was keeping them backed up all night.

The bad- O-line play, but I'm not going to beat a dead horse. They've been trashed enough, and they will get better.

The ugly- The performance by the FBS against the FCS. 7 losses, and none more embarrassing that Kansas St.

The Good: Christion (with the entire special teams unit) and the D--take away one breakdown and this was about as dominant a performance as you could ask for

The Bad: Inconsistent line play on O and a vanilla plan to help them out when there were 8-9 in a "very" tight box

The Ugly: The periodic confusion across the board on O. Does anyone but me worry we are trying to integrate too many stud specialist into the game too quickly which tears up our ability to gain any continuity?

Can't remember Amari ever dropping two in a game last year which he did yesterday though I'll admit both would have been good catches (but that's what we've come to expect from him).

The Good- Our special teams played one hell of a game! Christion Jones was awesome. Cody Mandel had a cannon for a leg. The kick off coverage gave VA tech bad field position all night.

The Bad- Our offensive line did not play well at all. There is nothing else that I can say without getting banned from this web site for a while.

The Ugly- The difference between how good VA tech's was versus how bad VA tech's offense was. It was a tale of two cities....

Dude scores more than half our points in the game, We should probably give him the courtesy of spelling his name right. :) rtr

The Good - Special Teams mainly Christion Jones and Landon Collins. Honorable mention for Devall's form tackle on that punt return.

The Bad- Offensive Line and Playcalling. I saw RTR91 make a point that I thought of but is probably not realistic, that we were forcing the oline to block more than they could just to make them tougher. To me the playcalling was that bad that my mind went to that length to try and explain it.

The Ugly- VA Tech's receivers, our teams body language throughout the game, AJ not stepping into hardly any of his throws.

that was something i mentioned while watching the game also. maybe he was worried about the pressure. on another note, if Thomas had some accuracy he'd be a top 3 QB going in the draft because he has a friggin cannon on him. huge arm. some of his passes were dropped because the WR's couldnt adjust because it was thrown so hard. and some couldnt be held onto. Those are on the WR's

The Good- The O Line for giving CNS & staff a great coaching opportunity & bring us fans back to the reality of we have to win the games first before #16

The Bad - the way the VT receivers made a very good QB look awful

The Ugly - Spielman & Mc Doodle hope we Never have them again.

I will add the Special teams & overall Defense played Great now bring on TPI & Deliverence Boy.

I preface this by saying that BAMA football has never been more dominant at any other point in our history, and has never has the quality of talent across the board in a 5-year stretch than we do right now. And our success has made us very selfish, and Coach Saban has rubbed off on all of us with the perfectionist attitude toward our football team.

The Almost Excellent: Special teams. Still can't get the ball into the endzone. Our coverage can make up for it sometimes, and may even cause a fumble from time to time, but would rather see the ball on the 20.
The Great: Our defense. we are loaded everywhere, but corner and nose are a concern.
The Good: Tech's defense and the Tech coaches game plan for our offense.
The Fair: Cooper. It will not be as easy for him this year if we can't give AJ time to set. The secondaries with also be ready for Cooper. He dropped 2 or 3 catchable passes.
The Poor: Fowler's blocking and Fowler's running.
The Bad: Now the rest of the def coordinators know how to gameplan our offense.
The Ugly: The big uglies. Has to be said. They lived up to their moniker.
The Very Ugly: Derrick Henry's blocking. He looked lost out there.

Part II
The Good: The Big Uglies have film now, and they can work toward correcting mistakes.
The Bad: If they don't do a better job, watch out.
The Ugly: In 2 weeks, Fulton gets burned again or we call blitz and stunt after blitz and stunt.
With the utmost respect you have to watch calling out specific players especially true freshmen in their fist game & a guy who just came off knee rehab, please.

am I the only one here who thinks we are kicking high and to the 2-3 yard line on purpose?

Everyone seems upset that we can't kick it into the end zone, giving our opponents the ball on the 25. What was VT's average starting position on kick-offs? I'd be shocked if it crossed the 20.

I'll take letting our opponent start on the 17 every time.

You did the same thing with Foster and Griffith, so I believe it must be on purpose. Because of your depth, you have (far and away) the most talented special teams units in the country. I don't mean the kickers, but the rest of the units. Not only are your younger players better, but your quality depth allows you to play offensive and defensive starters.

This is just another example of the type of edge that real depth offers. Saban has found another way to leverage your advantages.

I seem to recall that the shorter, high kick-offs have supposedly been on purpose for the last number of years. The problem I had with that was our kick coverage was lacking in respect to other aspects of the team.
If kick coverage has finally been fixed, and it looks like it has (at least based on the one game), then the strategy is sound.

With the utmost respect, the true freshman I have referred to and the guy who just came off knee rehab would not be playing if the coaches did not think they were ready and capable of playing. What this means is, whoever goes onto the field to play for Alabama, especially in the first half, will get praise if they do well, and they will get criticized if they do poorly. They get no attaboys and pats on the back, or "keep your chin up, you will get them next time". Tenpenny did well, that's why he went back in and the other freshman didn't.

I am sure Fowler's knee is just fine now, and he won the backup job behind Yeldon. when you quit on your blocks, miss assignments, and run scared (albeit some due to poor blocking), you will get called out.

Believe me, the coaches will be calling them out regardless of my feelings on the matter.

There's never been a rule against criticism of a particular player or coach. What is not allowed is "harsh criticism" or "bashing," either of coaches or players. An example would be "'X's' blocking sucks. He couldn't block a water-filled balloon coming at him." Pointing out specific problems with one player or another in an objective way has never been prohibited. Angry posts, and there were some of them in this thread, are always prohibited. And any time a mod or admin tells a poster to stop posting and get out of the thread, failure to do so will result in at least a day to a week suspension, depending on circumstances. Also, as I said earlier, posting while "lubricated," some of which happened in this thread, is not a good idea. Having suffered through moderating the Dubose and Shula eras, it still amazes me when we have some of the posts we had in this thread - after a solid win. I guess it's a combination of jacked-up expectations and bandwagon fans...

I was thinking the same thing. I have seen them kick it in the end zone on occasion so this has to be on purpose.
