Who is the team that fans of other programs love to hate and how high on that list would Bama rate?

Without very limited knowledge of college football I have little or no idea of who it would be. My reason for asking is that the most despised team is generally an indicator of success. If you take Manchester United in English soccer as an example they have more fans than anyone else in the English game, but if you polled the fans of the other clubs Manchester united would come out being easily the most hated due to their comparative success.

I know Bama don't like Auburn through the local rivalry, and the plastic paddies of Notre Dame are none to popular here for historical reasons, but if we took the Bama / Notre Dame NCG as an example would the majority of the neutrals have been hoping for a Tide or Fake Irish win?

Fans hate whoever is on top if it's not their team. Especially if that team has been there for a while and is seen as getting to much or undue attention. For the past several seasons that has been Bama. It runs in cycles and soon it will be someone else.

I don't know but Notre Dame/Miami gets my vote as the most universally hated teams. Most college football fans don't even know Awbarn is located in Alabama most think that"cow pasture U" is in Georgia. Did I mention awbarn sucks.

The most hated team at once was hands down Notre Dame. Problem is they've been mediocre for two decades, so it's not as much fun to hate them. There is now an entire generation of fans who don't know Notre Dame was once a legendary program (now only the girlfriend of the defender is legendary).

The one that seems to bubble back up to the surface from time to time is Miami. Auburn is not enough of a national power to be despised.

I'd say it's probably (in recent years) USC. Most folks feel like they deserved what they got with Lane Kiffin.

Btw - I lived in the UK in the 1970s (was in Ipswich when we won the FA Cup) and the most hated team over there at the time was Liverpool.

I'd still say it's Notre Dame......I hear their name, and instantly find myself pulling for the other team.

i also dislike: Michigan, Miami, Florida, USCw, LSU, and Arkansas (their dirty play has moved them way up my list)

There is also a difference between most hated team, and most hated fans. I'd say people still hate Notre Dame regardless of how terrible they are.
Generally people around the country consider Ohio State fans to be the most obnoxious and that was before Irving Mire got there.

During the college football season I pull for Bama and then check the box scores to see if Notre Dame and Ohio State lost. Oh, and AU too of course.

Used to visit the US base at RAF Edzell and had dinner aboard a couple of your "Science Vessels" ahem, docked at KG5 docks in Glasgow.

KG5, also the only time I ever had a pistol pointed in my face, by a somewhat over enthusiastic guard on one of said "science vessels" :D

Oh, I agree with you, but you and I are becoming yesterday. The current generation of kids don't have much of an idea about it. They don't have a President who played the Gipper and a lot wouldn't even know the fight song tune.

Plus - the days of it being the school "Catholics" root for out of loyalty is also long gone. (No offense intended to anyone, just an observation of a phenomenon)

I always look to see if Tenercee loses also. I guess I don't hate them as much as I did when Phat Phil was their coach. However, that color of orange is revolting! Yuck!!!!!!! Vomit!!!!!!!

USC and ND have always seemed to be the media darlings. I guess that's why I don't like them.

In the Bowls I always like the SEC to dominate. However, I just can't pull for the Barn or Tenercee. I don't like FSU either. The only time I liked them was when Peter Tom Willis was their QB! So I am in a predicament this year! Is there a way both can lose in that game. There's got to be a way to determine how that can happen!

You know, the Tenercee vs Alabama rivalry used to be a great one BB (Before Bear), During Bear's Reign (DBR) and AB (After Bear) and up until the Phat man. I always liked Johnny Majors.

I have always sorta liked State Penn. However, they did steal that game up there years ago and I was not happy about the results of that 1959 Liberty Bowl. We should have never played State Penn in a Cold Weather Bowl, even in 1959.

As far as I'm concerned, Alabama is the greatest football school ever and we're looking down at everyone else.

I'm still irritated at the Rose Bowl for tying that game to PAC vs B1G! I guess they got tired of losing to those scrawny rednecks from the Southeast!

Miami, Southern Cal, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma,Nebraska & Penn St. have been the big names during my 43 years, but the biggest and most important name has been the University of Alabama!

I think for me, and for a large margin of people, it is Notre Dame...

They rank up there with the Yankees/Mets, Lakers, Man U (it's Liverpool for me), and Sgt slaughter circa 1990 (for old school wrestling fans) for me...

I like your name: BornABamaFan. I may have been born a Bama man/fan. However, I didn't know it until I knew what football was. When I knew what football was, I knew I was a Bama man/fan.

Maybe that's why I never liked Notre Dame or Notre Dame people except Coach Frank Thomas. I always had a strong dislike for the Yankees! Maybe it's because of their name. I was always a Brooklyn Dodger fan. 1955 was a Great year!

The rotating most despised team is the #1 team, because everyone wants to beat them. But unfortunately, because of the Catholic/Protestant angle and that Notre Dame is the only true national/Global college football team other than Military Schools, Notre Dame wins hands down. Not even worth asking imo.
