This may not be a popular opinion, but...

CNS needs to suck it up and coach the team. They've looked ill-prepared and sloppy the last two weeks and that's on him. If he thinks fans expecting a coach to win when he's given $7million/year, has an arsenal of talent that's as good or better than any other team in the country and is given everything he's ever asked for wrt tools, buildings, etc. is unreasonable, then maybe he needs to refocus his efforts.

Frankly, I'm tired of hearing what CNS and wife think of us as fans. Put a product on the field that reflects what you preach and we'll all be happy.
I will say this I grew up with Coach Bryant and I cannot ever recall him making comments like that. He did go after the media and especially wormy Finebaum . He NEVER talked to the fans like CNS just did. And Coach Bryant always took the blame for a loss.

So? These are two different coaches, I don't care one iota how Bryant behaved in comparison to Nick Saban. In the same respect, I'd never go around bashing Bryant for only winning 12 games in two years. That's something Nick Saban never did either, once again two different coaches in two different circumstances.

A few have suggested fans griping might make Saban lean toward retirement early. My guess is that he will retire when he doesn't enjoy coaching enough to keep on, or doesn't feel up to the constant challenge, or wants some time for something else. Surely a minority of grumbling fans wouldn't be what would push him into an early retirement.

The way you defend Saban and attack other fans over this topic I have to wonder if you're Terry Saban or Jeff Puriton. Which one?

YUP.

i'm tired of hearing mr. gazillionaire (and his wife) whine and moan.

the product we saw on the field last week and in the second half of the ole miss game wasn't about the fans, it was about a dysfunctional poorly prepared team.

shut up and coach.

I have to look up Puriton actually, but let's say I was one or the other, right? Let's say I was Terry and I thought the fans were being counterproductive. Let's say I was on the staff or something and had the same sentiment. Would that hold no value to you? When Nick credits Terry for helping with recruiting, that means something, but only if she's doing things that we approve of right?

How is it that fans, who have thin skin over being criticized, can be critical of anyone else for having thin skin? Bear Bryant never did that to us! The simple fact is we can't possibly be helpful behaving in this manner.

This is a perfect example. You tell me how that helps? And, for the record I've seen some of the same sentiments over and over from some of the same people. The more at liberty they feel to behave this way, the louder and bolder they'll become. Did anything Nick or Terry say ever sink to this level?

The worst part of all of this is I firmly believe they are doing what they ultimately think will lead to more success. But, just coach Nick! Don't worry about attitudes, or recruiting, or any of that stuff, just Xs and Os please!

What good has Saban done? He's ticked off the majority of the fanbase. Writers across the nation will attack him and the fanbase over this.

If he continues to do this and continues to annoy the fanbase (which is evident), some fans won't buy apparel or attend games. How's that going to go over? Oh yeah, those fans are just entitled.

Coach Saban is 84 - 16 in his first 100 games at Alabama. He's a victim of his own success when it comes to expectations. However, he did say before the season started that the team was "starting all over again" and rebuilding- most of us just didn't believe him. He said rebuilding and we heard "reloading". So, to be fair to the man, he tried to set more realistic expectations for the season before it even started.

It's possible that this comment about fans expectations is nothing more than a demonstration to the players that he has their backs. I find it hard to believe that he is any less demanding in his expectations of the coaches and players this year than any other year- it's not in his DNA. If this thread is any indication, he was successful in taking the heat of the players and putting it on him. Well played, Coach.

Over the first half of the season, I think Blake has played about as I would expect a first-year starter would. Some hood moments, some less than stellar. I believe he can do better than he did against Arkansas, but his performance wasn't catastrophic. He's learning.
Now, fumbles on special teams, false start penalties, those things drive me crazy because the are about self-discipline.

Well, for starters he's taken some of the heat off the team hasn't he? Secondly, when Alabama almost inevitably falls out of contention, some of the meltdown will already be dissipated. Part of the problem leading up to the Auburn game was that Alabama fans simply didn't see it coming.

I think it's broader than that, and actually in part for the fans benefit. Their expectations need to be reset, desperately, and the sooner they do that the more they'll enjoy things and the less likely to jump off buildings they'll be. If those fans continue with those expectations, they'll stop going to games anyway, when they can't bear to watch Alabama win by a single score or what not and be too embarrassed to wear their Alabama shirt the next day.

Having said that, I'd love to get season tickets! I'd stay for 4 quarters to! So, I'm not too worried about the disgruntled fans who can't take Saban barking at them a little bit, there's plenty of fans waiting in line. Mind you, Saban has made the University tens of millions of dollar profit, he's nowhere near becoming a financial liability, his approach unquestionably has worked.

Seriously, what is your issue? You have been bashing CNS for a long time and you whine about almost everything he says or does. You take shots at him all the time and all the while like to remind everybody that YOU send "money" to the school and that he works for YOU. CNS' contributions to this school likely brought in more money this week that you'll send in your whole life...

So this is how Rome fell....everyone turning on each other.

A lot of fans need to shut up and remember we are just fans. CNS doesn't need to care about the fans' statements and pretend we are not here and just coach.

Thanks.
When Alabama lost to Florida in 2008, I was disappointed, but that Florida team was more talented, played a great game and won.
What I saw on the field Saturday was a not a team that played near its potential. I know they can play better than that.
C'mon, Coach, coach'em up. If they get beat by a better team, I'll be disappointed, but I'll understand.

A boss of mine once told me that I am my harshest critique. Others should feel this way.

I think coach is wanting his team to have fun and play loose. He may suspect that some of the mistakes are partially caused by stress and the pressure of playing here. Of course, Coach Saban has set that standard very high.
