Coach Saban upset with high expectations

Wow, what a wild ride I just had reading this thread.

I will. just say this. I had the opportunity to sit behind a player's parents at a game. Some of the things they were hearing about their son (and not reacting to them) was literally sickening. Some of the tweets posted by Drake were along those lines. My take from listening to what Coach Saban said was that there is a lot of over the top reactions from fans that are beyond what is reasonable, and I agree. However, it does come with the territory, and these days of social media to do this job or play this game you have to have seriously thick skin.

But, but, but they have a right to express their displeasure. They are paying CNS 7 million a year to put this crap on the field. After all, CNS is not beyond reproach, and if they don't speak up, CNS may be covering for a child molester or something. Ok, maybe that's not exactly the same thing, but it makes my post seem much more dramatic. I think I may tweet about!!!

Let me get them the adress for them to write letter to Nick Saban.. hold on... let me get the address...
It's surprising how many folks on this board appear to have really fragile feelings. If what Nick Saban said offends you, prepare to be offended again. He's a passionate coach, and passion takes many forms. None of us know what this team is hearing from its followers, but let's take a wild guess at what gems the fringe came up with Saturday night.

Please, no more Paul Bryant comparisons. His era might have well as been the Ice Age. And had he and his personal struggles been subjected to a tenth of the scrutiny of today, he would have been run out of coaching.

If you were offended by Nick Saban, that is your right. Why don't you write him a letter, and sign your real name.

I don't know exactly why Saban said what he said, it might have to do with the attitude in the locker room, it might have to do with recruiting, or heck it really might have just been annoyance with the media. I'm not in his head.

What I do know though, if I was recruiting against Alabama, I would fill that player's head full of stuff I've seen people saying. I'd tell him that he'd get death threats if Alabama lost, I'd tell him that fans would send him hate mail if he had a bad game, and they wouldn't appreciate anything he did, that they'd only remember the mistakes that he made. I'd tell him he can't win at Alabama, because if he had one bad game, one loss, the fans would tear him to shreds. Now, might that be the same for some other places, yeah, sure, might that be focusing only on the down side and exaggerating it? Yup, but it wouldn't be my job to point that out to him.

Now, I know for a fact that other SEC recruiters have used message board topics (negatively). I also know that players have specifically alluded to negativity on Twitter when they committed. So, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that the fans do play a role, whether or not that's what Saban was addressing.

Some of you are worse than the media. One critique of Saban or the staff or the players means we fans are entitled and unappreciative of what is happening in Tuscaloosa.
I do think you can be a good Alabama fan and dislike what Saban said. I do think you can be a good Alabama fan and say you dislike what Saban said. I do, however, also think you can have a negative impact doing that.

I will say this I grew up with Coach Bryant and I cannot ever recall him making comments like that. He did go after the media and especially wormy Finebaum . He NEVER talked to the fans like CNS just did. And Coach Bryant always took the blame for a loss.

Uh...................didn't he make a comment, on his Sunday show, that went something like............

"All you people out there, writing in, saying all these things about our boys here at Alabama.........well, all you people just go to..................."

Let's no go down the road that what the fans say have an impact on what happens on the field Saturday. Please tell me we are smarter than that..

This may not be a popular opinion, but...

CNS needs to suck it up and coach the team. They've looked ill-prepared and sloppy the last two weeks and that's on him. If he thinks fans expecting a coach to win when he's given $7million/year, has an arsenal of talent that's as good or better than any other team in the country and is given everything he's ever asked for wrt tools, buildings, etc. is unreasonable, then maybe he needs to refocus his efforts.

Frankly, I'm tired of hearing what CNS and wife think of us as fans. Put a product on the field that reflects what you preach and we'll all be happy.

I'm quite frankly sick of CNS 'making up' talking points to deflect the subject too. He was just as ticked off at the players as we were during that game and now he's trying to coddle them and pat them on the back by putting the blame on the fans.

Does ANYONE really think HE was happy with the WAY the team played regardless of the score being 14-13?

I think we've been pretty dang supportive by packing out A-Day games and spending 1,000's of $$$ on Season Tickets and cheering LOUDLY for the new QB this year in support of him leading the team. We've even welcomed KIFFIN of all people.

He's the one shopping around for more money every year and flirting with Texas to the point we have to give him more money and bail him out of bad real estate investments and HE's ticked at US???? Give me a freaking break.

I'm about ready to be fine with him watching ducks in the yard. I'm super appreciative of how he turned us around but I have my limits on how many free passes I'm willing to give out for fan criticism JUST because he's won 3 NC's here.

Lol he is the one who went on a rant today when asked a harmless question. Take that sensitivity stuff somewhere else..

He went on a rant for about 10-15 percent of his answer. We hear what we want to hear. Look at it this way: Nick Saban paid you the compliment of being honest with his comments and his feelings. Unlike you or me he doesn't have the benefit of anonymity.

I watch all of the PCs. I know what the context was. He is in the public eye. When he rants it gets replayed everywhere which causes more distractions and clutter..

This is what I mean by fringe opinions. You're not the first person in the topic to say something like this, we had someone who in the past said he would stop cheering for Alabama if Nick Saban was overpaid in his estimation, throw some name calling Saban's way, but you're one of the few who had the nerve to just come out and say this sort of thing.

I don't think crimsonaudio really intended to feed this sort of thing, but some people took that as open season and kept piling on. The thing is they've been piling on to every negative Nick Saban thread for a while now, even back when Alabama was undefeated and had a chance of a three-peat. There's a real seething resentment there, and they always bring up the same thing, his pay, his wife, his criticism of fans. And really, that's end of the list, but to them it seems like really good grounds for a lot of anger.

I don't get it, I really just don't. You're honest, I respect that, but I think it's nuts that you're not alone here. Others have the same exact attitude, that they love NCs and all, but they'd rather Nick Saban leave than criticize them. They'd prefer a quite, mediocre coach over what they're getting. And, I have no doubt that eventually these people will aid in that ouster if they're able. I'm dumbfounded though, I can't understand what feeds that mentality.

Against Florida, Blake Sims broke the all time, single game, total offense record in the history of Alabama football.
I know racism isn't supposed to be brought up on this board, and it shouldn't. I agree 100%.
But bringing up the Auburn "color crayons", since they have a black QB, gives me no choice but to think you're a racist.
If I'm right, you're pathetic.
If I'm wrong, I apologize.

How much you drinkin' these days? Seems like every night that you post the later it gets the more irrational you are.

Yea that racist comment came way out of left field. I wasn't gonna touch it. Glad it wasn't directed at me. I would have had to defend myself on that one..

I'm absolutely appalled. You're either the biggest "MOO" in the history of this board, you're drunk out of your mind, or you're stupid.
And I hope I'm right!

RTR, as often as you point out the shortcomings of the rest of us, one would think you would have stumbled onto the fact that it helps to be a bit more civil.
