The disconnect is in the fact that the AP and moreso, the Coaches' poll have a slightly different goal or focus than does the committee. Not necessarily better or worse, just different. The polls are focused on ranking the teams by strength. They are more predictive. The committee is focused on ranking teams by their level of having "deserved" consideration. It is more retrodictive. In other words, the AP and Coaches' polls are more trying to order teams based on who would beat whom on a neutral field. The committee is more focused on ordering teams based on already proven accomplishments.
There lies the problem with the committee, it's about the best teams now, not accomplishments weeks ago. Who do you want to see in the Superbowl, the two best teams, or the teams that looked best in early October?

I'm more "upset" that Auburn is ranked ahead of Bama. Bama lost by 6 on the road - Auburn lost by 15 and it shouldn't have been that close. I don't think anyone can argue that Auburn was anywhere near MSU's class that day. Auburn just came off a mediocre home win against USC. The good thing is that if AU is ranked ahead of Bama much longer it will only strengthen Bama's resume when we (hopefully) exact revenge on them next month.

So to everyone saying that Ole Miss should be ranked ahead of Alabama , head to head is the most important factor?
Right now- yes. But the final four will be determined in week 13 when the total body of work for each team will be considered. At that point Bama might be more deserving. We must let the season play out. It's only week 8. This week's poll is nothing more than ESPN and message board fodder.

Your response proves nothing. If you want to say that Bama is better than a team who beat them straight up go ahead. Anyone with half of a brain and any reasoning skills sees the fallacy of this argument. Especially with all things being equal. If OM was 6-2 then your argument would be valid. But OM is not. They are 7-1 with a win OVER Bama. A win 3 weeks ago is not of lesser importance than it is now. Nor is a loss this week more detrimental than it was three weeks ago. It's about body of work up to this point. Will the totality of the season show that Bama deserves to be in the top 4 over OM? Maybe. This is yet to be seen. This is week 8. What's going to matter is week 13 when the total body of work will be considered for each team. At that point Bama might deserve to be higher based on how the rest of the season turns out for all teams.
So Ole Miss would beat Bama this week, you believe that, then you should agree with the rankings. I don't give a lady bug what happened 3 weeks ago!

Good point.

Well I've done my part to douse fires with water and build structures to stop falling skies but I've GOT to tag out at this point. I need some Aleve.....seriously.

We control our destiny and all is well. We are #6.....play #1 and #3 next month while #3 and #4 play an elimination game in 4 days that will make us #5 next week.... *sigh*

*Aleve bottle rattling*

AP Bama #3
Coaches Poll Bama#3

Committee Bama#6

What amazes me is all these Bama fans want to take stock in this committees ratings yet dismiss the AP and Coaches Poll. Yet we claim all these AP and Coaches Poll National Championships. Now all of a sudden the committee is right and the AP and Coaches poll is wrong. Makes no sense to me!

You should. Bama got beat by Ole Miss three weeks ago. Thus, they are ranked higher. It doesn't matter what an illogical fan thinks. Would Bama beat OM tomorrow? Maybe but we will never know unless they meet in the playoffs. They beat Bama straight up. That's empirically verifiable proof that OM deserves to be ranked higher. Not a subjective "eyeball test."

the reason I asked the question is because that was a close loss in Oxford, a game that clearly changed when Alabama lost their most versatile offensive weapon in Drake and more importantly their most critical offensive lineman. Now Oregon seemingly got a pass for losing to Arizona at home because of injuries, I would dare say losing players early in a road game is a more significant loss than losing players, at home , before the game started because they took snaps in practice with the ones. Plus, there are few replacements in the country for Drake. Oregon was rated 8 spots above Arizona even though, and I say again, the game was in Eugene.

Also, it is important because in the past 10 years, 6 teams in 4 different years had 2 losses in the final AP poll before the bowl games. It is possible that a 2 loss team, especially a 2 loss SEC team , may be in the playoffs. there is a chance that a 2 loss Bama team and a 2 loss Ole Miss team may be vying for a spot.

Lastly, if you feel strongly about head to head, then you should feel that Alabama should give back the 1978 AP national championship.

one other thing, ESPN statistical ranking system , FPI, and Sagarins computer has Bama rated higher than Ole Miss. they are not illogical.

Now tell me why they have Oregon rated ahead of Arizona? And why they have TCU rated above Baylor?

HTH is disregarded on Oregon and key injury is taken into account with lost game. HTH with Bama is taken into account and key injury is disregarded with lost game.:rolleye2:

Yes because the polls have a history of getting it right. The polls, especially the Coaches Poll, are a joke. And they are irrelevant now (thankfully).

Use some common sense. Did you watch Bama the last two weeks and watch Ole Miss Saturday night? If you did, you should know who is the better team right now, not 3 weeks ago.

No, I actually agree with the Baylor/Arizona thing to some degree. They should be ranked higher. But they are taking injuries into account which is absurd.

Common sense? That's your argument? Bama is 7-1. OM is 7-1. Bama lost to OM. Common sense says that RIGHT NOW OM should be ranked higher. Will this be the case after AU beats them? No. This is potentially is a fluid situation. It will most likely change each week as this plays out & teams lose, win out, and etc. It's only week 8.

Use common sense and logic. It's what educated people do.
