the reason I asked the question is because that was a close loss in Oxford, a game that clearly changed when Alabama lost their most versatile offensive weapon in Drake and more importantly their most critical offensive lineman. Now Oregon seemingly got a pass for losing to Arizona at home because of injuries, I would dare say losing players early in a road game is a more significant loss than losing players, at home , before the game started because they took snaps in practice with the ones. Plus, there are few replacements in the country for Drake. Oregon was rated 8 spots above Arizona even though, and I say again, the game was in Eugene.
Also, it is important because in the past 10 years, 6 teams in 4 different years had 2 losses in the final AP poll before the bowl games. It is possible that a 2 loss team, especially a 2 loss SEC team , may be in the playoffs. there is a chance that a 2 loss Bama team and a 2 loss Ole Miss team may be vying for a spot.
Lastly, if you feel strongly about head to head, then you should feel that Alabama should give back the 1978 AP national championship.
