Les Miles fired according to Sunday reports

I didnt realize a Bama grad Charlie Mac is the has more win than any other LSU coach. If i recall correctly Charlie never beat Coach Bryant.

The emotional decision to fire the coach often gets a blast of cold dewater to the face the next morning....now what?

So seriously, who does LSU get? All things considered, I think Kiffin is a logical candidate.

Briles is radioactive for everybody except Auburn and Louisville. Herman is viable, but I really believe his next stop is a blue-blood in a good situation. Is LSU, with all the histrionics, really a step up from Houston, where you rule like Saban in Tuscaloosa?

Beyond that, who? You have an AD who has egg on his face in basketball and now football. He's probably next on the guilliotine. The school president has already said the institution is in financial distress.

Given all that, who is both better than Miles and will come to BR?

Whither now, corndogs?

LSU will pay that per year.
Exactly, LSU can match them 10 to 1. Just depends on if Herman wants to stay another year or two and build a team. It will or won't be about money, but we don't know yet. If he has confidence and Texas never gets in the top 10, they could match LSU 10 to 1 in a couple of years.

Okay, here's what's gonna happen:

First of all, Saban to Texas, because we all know that's the only job he'd ever leave Alabama for

Alabama gets Lane Kiffin to take over for Saban. LSU hires Tom Herman while Charlie Strong leaves Texas for down the road in Houston. Yeah, that's exactly how it will happen.

But that's not even a good argument. Les Miles is 63 years old. Replacing Saban with him would be borderline insane. The bigger problem is that they should have either canned him last year or at the end of this year rather than doing it halfway and then going all the way.

I don't think the point of the comment was to be taken in such a literal manner, but the point was whether, if we had a choice of a coach, would Les Miles, at any age, as our choice? Presumably not.

Perhaps they should have pulled the trigger last year, but last year they had a minor civil uprising on their hands. And anyway, last year is no longer an option, so given where they were yesterday, they had 2 choices, fire him now or at the end of the season. If they had waited, they very possibly would have found themselves in a place similar to last year, with an emotional campus acting out. In my opinion this was regrettable but by far and away the best choice for LSU at this moment with their history, unless they planned to keep him.

I will miss old Les.

Like I said in a earlier post HERMAN is their #1 man, I don't care if any of you believe me or not. Kiffin is on that list, briles is on that list & wants the job !!!!, I will find out more late tommorrw.

To everyone who think LSU should have kept Les:

If our HC retired today, would you want to replace him with Les Miles? Think about that.

The problem is who do you go after? Tom Herman? What if he says no then who?

LSU is a great job, but the problem is that there are better jobs probably opening up later in the season and there aren't an abundance of great coaches that are likely to move.

If Houston is close to a Big XII deal then everyone should probably cross of Herman's name because that puts him into a Bobby Petrino situation in that he can build a power in an easier power 5 conference while making bank doing it.

I would figure he will eventually get a gig with espn or some sort providing "analysis" on the SEC and college football as long ad there is not any kind of stipulations in his contract. He'll be in good shape

Miles could be hired by the SEC network as a 'Turf Taster'...

While I am pleased to see LSU in such disarray, I have to admit that I will miss Les's goofiness and charm. While he was the coach of a hated enemy, the guy was just downright likable. Adios, Mad Hatter. I wish our teams could've met on the field one more time!!

They had Rece Davis on shortly after the firing was reported by ESPN. He made a point that was "different" from the other people who were throwing out speculation about the next coach of LSU. Rece said that we all think it's easy to win at LSU and rightfully so. But look at history. Outside of Saban and his residual impact on the program that has obviously run out. How many coaches have truly had great success coaching at LSU? Not many. He was hinting that though LSU has so many obvious advantages (recruiting base, no in state competition) it may not be that easy of a program to keep at an elite level. Because history suggest so. I thought it was a good and valid angle.

LSU has almost always won. Certainly not at the level of the past 15 years. I guess some just remember the Halman and last Dinardo year(s). According to CFDW or AP or UPI here LSU's decade ranking since the SEC was formed:
30s 10
40s 20
50s 24 and NC
60s 7
70s 17
80s 18
90s 35
00s 6
10s 9

They have 11 SECC and 3 NC, UT 13 and 2. Bama leads the SEC with at least 1 NC in every decade of the SECs existence 9, LSU is second with 7. Major bowls: LSU 11-11-1 is second to Bama's 23-16-1 in appearances and wins, UGA 9-7, UT 8-11. (AU is about 8th in appearances and wins 4-5-1.) IMO, appearances is almost as important as wins, usually indicating that you had a very good reg season. They've finished ranked 39 times, in the top 10 23 times, and in the top two 5 times. The 90s were their only bad decade, even then #35.

I would argue that LSU has surpassed UT to become the second all time program in the SEC. As would CFDW.

LSU is almost always underrated when considering historic SEC programs. That's not even counting their charisma: WWL carrying almost the only night games from the 30s-70s or 80s nationwide; all of those Cajun names in the past; Death Valley; their quirky nature - that's why Miles was such a perfect fit; a kind of voodoo feel at times. Come on Rece. Even before Saban, LSU was 3rd or 4th in the SEC and a national caliber program.

Coach McClendon played for Coach Bryant at UK. He beat Coach Bryant in '69 and '70 and lost the other 14 times. I attended the '70 game in Bham among other LSU games at LF from the mid-60s through the early 70s. There were some great moments.
