Have you guys seen the video of Jermaine in Bham, at Linn Park?
Probably should watch the video then. Not sure how you can get people riled up and then ask them to stop. How about starting with non acts of violence and then continue with that theme. Just, for some reason, expected more from him.I admit, I haven’t watched the video. I read about it, however, and the article made it seem like he called for the destruction of a confederate monument in the park. The article also said he pleaded with folks for it to stop there. Is that the “violence” you’re referencing?
All he did was call for the removal of the monument. He explicitly said that they shouldn’t do anything else. Hell he even told the mob to stop after the Mayor of Birmingham came and promised to have the thing down in 24hrs.for those of us that don't want to go to facebook, anyone have links to the video in question? I watched the interview with Funnymaine and am 100% on his side there but would love to see the video from the night prior

Yeah and he also said specifically that that thing they need to tear down was the monument that the state has sued the city everyday of the year over. He specifically said that was the only thing they should tear down and not to set the city on fire or break windows. People keep cutting off his speak after “we need to tear something down tonight”.That wasn't all he did. He said the world needs to see Bham tear something down tonight. That he'd be at Linn Park that night. For people to join him. And the world saw stuff get torn down. But not just Linn Park. Whole lot of stuff got torn down in Bham last night. Now he is back tracking saying it was outsiders that started the destruction.
He could have made his speech about peace and loving your fellow man. He could have made it about change. He didn't make it about that. He made it about meeting up and tearing stuff down.
I like Jermaine, it was probably just an error in judgment. I think that people with a voice need to be responsible with it and for it.
There was a peaceful protest in Dothan yesterday and no one mentioned tearing stuff down. That's the way it should be.
I'd yank it down and start a gofundme to cover the $25k fine.
I think it's worth noting that Colin Kaepernick tried a nice peaceful way of demonstrating by taking a knee, and look what it got him.How about starting with non acts of violence and then continue with that theme. Just, for some reason, expected more from him.
I would support it. Ive said for years that the city should have the power to determine whether a monument should be in a public place or not. Birmingham clearly doesnt want it, but some rogue attorney general in Montgomery made a pretty specifically worded Act to force Birmingham to keep that monument. If Montgomery wants it then let Montgomery have it, but dont force Birmingham to have to keep it if they dont want to look at it in a public park.I'd yank it down and start a gofundme to cover the $25k fine.
I guarantee they'd surpass that within 24 hours.
No this is Marshall capitulating. This is him tacitly saying he will not fight the removal. He has to do something by law, and he's saying he'll make Birmingham pay peanuts.
The question then becomes "why now?". Marshall has wasted alot of time and money in Federal court fighting Birmingham on this. The law was pretty much aimed at Birmingham more than any other confederate monument in the state, and everyone knew it. Really the title of this thread probably should technically be titled "Steve Marshall incites violence in Bham" if we are being honest about this.No this is Marshall capitulating. They tried that garbage here in Tennessee / Memphis, so the mayor devised a clever plan to sell the public parks - the new owner removed them (almost instantly - it was obviously planned out): https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...memphis-after-city-sells-public-parks-n831746I would support it.
