The main issue with that is that we really don’t have room for them to stay. We have 3 already signed, plus possible additions in Bediako and Namari Burnett. If Burnett transfers to us, someone already has to transfer (my guess would be Rojas).
How can the NCAA allow a free year but not adjust the # allowed to be on scholly? Have they said how the "free year" thing is going to work.

Yes - the total allowed under scholarship in 2021 is not increased by those who choose to stay another year when their eligibility would otherwise have expired.

I think they're right, Mike. Our roster won't have limits caused by the "lost year." It would be a wonderful opportunity, if they're inclined to do it...

Of course, their staying around could also have a negative effect on recruiting. It would make for a mighty long bench...
Yep but knowing how fragile depth can be, there would be players that could possibly play sooner than they thought. For sone reason, I only think one of the two of Resse/Brunner will be back. Also I think we may see a transfer too. I'll give my full thoughts at the end of the season.

It happens quickly enough in football - about the time I think we're heavy on RBs, they start dropping like flies. In BB, it can be sudden and devastating. We had one poster earlier saying that we had too many guards. Well, as long when they're tall and agile, there's no such problem...

I know Herb is considered "draft worthy" because he's like a Swiss Army Knife, however, I wonder if there would be any consideration to coming back another year to elevate his game?

The improvement in his shooting (most notably his 3 point shot) is shockingly better. Frankly, before this year I don't know if I've ever seen a player at the college level who shot more bricks than Herb. And then we heard in the offseason he was working on his jumper. I was really skeptical. But then, it happened. He got significantly better.

Giving credit where credit is due, the truth is his shooting skills still have a long way to go IMO. If there was a way for him to improve that much more by staying another year he could really become a high level NBA star if he truly became an offensive threat.

NBA teams will get him specialists to fix his shot. They will break it down to the nth degree. Teams in the NBA are pretty arrogant about that type of thing. They think they can fix almost anyone’s shot. That’s why Sharife Cooper will likely be a lottery pick even though his shot needs fixing. The thought process is, let’s get the speed and athleticism, and we can work on his shot, rather than his college coach do it and we miss out on him.

I'd guess you're right. This season, with the knee injury had to have been deeply dissatisfying for him, after going through the hassle of transferring, etc. Also, Reese definitely had the look of someone saying goodbye to his home...
I was thinking the same, it could have been the emotions of the moment, but I'm more inclined to think he Reese won't be back. I do believe Brunner will be back though. I'm thinking one more year in the program will move him to late draft status. With the guys we currently have coming in and the guys that are slated to be back, we should have the best roster in the SEC and at least a top5/top 10 roster nationally. If we bring in at least Bediako, then its good night folks :)

I don't know enough about how NBA teams operate in this regard to know, but I'm sure you're right.

However, I'm thinking more about potentially being a lottery pick if he could really change the perception that he is also a true scoring threat.

I think the injury will drive him on to the NBA. He's closer to healthy, but it's still affecting his elevation around the basket on the offensive end. Mike is right. They'll fix his shot. If Carmelo Anthony's shot can be fixed from college, then anyone's can...

I don't ever see lottery pick out of Herb. He is good but not to that level IMO. I see a long good career with potential to make All-NBA defense but he is never going to have the type offense needed to be a lottery pick or All-Star IMO. I think we have seen Herb's 3pt % fall off in the last 4-5 games. It has improved but NBA wise it is still well below average IMO (and you will be adding another 2' or so).

You guys are forgetting one of the poorer college outside shooters I've seen but got it straightened out in the pros. In college he made most all his points via dunks, rebounds and stick backs, and free throws - very few outside shots. In fact he was basically shut down by Bobby Knight in a NCAA tournament game that eliminated his team. How did Knight do it? He had a 6 foot 5 inch player guard him the entire game. His guarding instructions were to stay between this player and the basket so he could stop the dunks and rebounding stick backs and not help out on anything else in the game. It worked. If I remember correctly he scored around 9 points in that game. Now take a guess at who this player was. It was Michael Jordan. Now if he could learn to shoot from the outside in the NBA, then I believe Herb Jones can also with all the coaching and Herb's willingness to put in the hours and work. Just my opinion.

You are going way out there comparing/mentioning Herb to MJ but it is your opinion. I think he is more like former Bama player Keith Askins who played great D and stared hitting some of his outside shots and played many years in the NBA.
