Hey y'all remember that all A&M did this year is beat Bama. That is all that mattered to them.

That's usually the #1 goal of everybody that has the Tide on their schedule in the SEC, but it takes more than that to be great, win the SEC and a NC.

Case in point, they also lost 4 games (Arkansas, both Mississippi schools and lowly LSU!) and finished 4th in the SECW.

They signed a great class, but until they do something with all this talent, I'll then show some concern.

Where the ratings are as close as these are, there isn’t any real difference between #1, #2, and #3. Reason being, it’s within the range of performance for a single individual.…and that is notoriously unpredictable.

For years, I’ve drawn the analogy between standardized test scores (academics) and recruiting rankings (athletics). We all know kids that made 30 or better on the ACT and partied themselves into flunking out. We also know kids that made 23 on the ACT, but worked hard, studied, busted it all day every day, and ended up Phi Beta Kappa or Beta Gamma Sigma. But taken as a whole, the academic performance of a room full of 25 kids who all made 30+, will run circles around a room full of kids who all made 23.

Likewise, we tend to remember 5-star recruits who underperformed, and 2 or 3 stars who ended up All-SEC. But those are far more the exception than the rule.

The thing is that human nature causes exceptions — lesser scores or rankings doing well, and high-ranking or scoring busts — to stick in our memories, and also causes us to overlook instances where results were in line with expectations. So we tend to ignore the fact that most, though by no means all, high ranking kids do well. And most, not all, lesser-regarded kids confirm why they were in that cohort.

Point being, at the individual level, anything can happen. When you get 25 of them, and evaluate the performance of the group as a whole, the test scores and recruiting rankings are pretty dang predictive.

Of the 3 classes Bama…UGa…aTm)
Ill take Nick Saban’s room full of “high-character” recruits over Kirby and Jimbo’s “just-because-of-the-rating” recruits 100 times out of 100.

I’ll take quality over quantity all day. We probably could have recruited a higher rated defensive lineman than Hastings or higher rated safety prospect than Pope but Saban saw something that others didn’t. Guarantee you they will be starting at some point where other higher rated guys aren’t. The rankings are solely for the players and fans not coaches.
