Came up through elementary, middle, and high school with the Swinneys. This one was in my year. He was one of the nicest and friendliest guys in school, well-liked by everyone in every clique. Could’ve never predicted his future, based on his primary school performance (this latest bit of news certainly isn’t the only embarrassment he’s produced, though certainly it is the worst).

I moved to a different state in the middle of my senior year in high school, so didn’t graduate with “Tripp”. But my understanding is that sometime either just before or just after graduation, he was almost killed in an auto accident and suffered a severe brain injury, requiring him to relearn even some basic things like speech, etc. And as I’ve heard through the grapevine over the years, he was never the same person after that accident. His personality completely changed. Allegedly substance abuse, domestic abuse, and apparently child sexual abuse.

I don’t offer any of this as an excuse. Only as a possible explanation.

This type of person is seriously mentally ill and needs to be incarcerated for life. They are driven by sexual needs that no normal person has or really can understand. Since we don't use castration, chemical or otherwise, the best we can do is isolate them -- for the safety of children and for their safety. I know more than I wish I did about this area...

Quick background on Dabo's brother.

He's the one who gave him the nickname Dabo

When he was 16 he was in a serious car accident only a block from his house. He hit a house and was thrown through the windshield. He was comatose for weeks. When he awoke he had severe memory loss. He had some fairly large personality changes since that accident. It's not that unusual for someone who has has had a severe brain injury to suffer from personality change. One of the changes that can happen is a loss of inhibition. Since then he has had bouts with alcoholism, drug abuse, and was homeless for a time in the Atlanta area. He has also been arrested for stalking, among other things.

Very sad all around.

I know this type circumstance all too well. My late brother was an unbelievably bright guy. His IQ tested way past 130. As a kid he was “different” but not weird different (think Sheldon on Big Bang Theory). At age 19 he was in a severe auto accident with multiple facial fractures, closed head injury with frontal lobe brain damage. He retained the intellectual capacity but afterwards his personality was “flat” and his behavior borderline sociopathic. He self medicated with alcohol and drugs the rest of his life and died of alcoholism at age 50. However he never delved into the sexual deviance realm. He was quite the opposite. He was the type that was so sociopathic he would have considered exacting his own punishment on them.

Counseling, therapy, or pharmacological therapy was never going to help my brother. Our family actually pushed to get him institutionalized the later years, to no avail. Our biggest fear was he would get drunk and kill someone in an accident or just lose his wits and outright kill someone. Sad to say, it was a great relief for many in our family when the alcohol killed him.

@Padreruf is right. There are those that represent a clear danger to society. No amount of treatment will help. My family knows that all too well.

No truer statement in this thread, and unfortunately, Dabo is going to be asked about this (for the short term at least) as much or more than his football team.
Well he is probably going to be asked about it because he most likely paid for him to live near him after he was arrested for stalking his wife in Florida in 2016. But unless there is some proof that Dabo was aware of this part of his criminal life then none of it falls on Dabo, nor should it unless he was aware of it and didn’t report it.

There are plenty of reasons to throw rocks at Dabo.

His brother’s conduct isn’t one of them.

Prayers for the children the brother hurt, whether that damage was direct or indirect. They can’t speak for or defend themselves.
Agreed. Sad all around.
None of this is Dabo's fault.
I feell bad for the kids, and for Dabo's family. Lord have mercy...

Got a good friend who lives in Canada who has 4 step daughters that have gone through that……. Biological father abused them, and they are damaged…….. evil walks amongst us
For a couple of years as a child, I lived across the street from a guy who was probably 5-6 years older than me. I was roughly 10 and he would have been 15 - 16.

No, he never did anything untoward to me or my younger sister. But decades later, in his 40s, he was charged with possession of child porn. I’m not aware that he was involved in the production, but at the very least, he was part of the market for it.

Anyway, the prosecutors apparently had the goods on him, because he killed himself before trial. Between the shame of the impending conviction and the status he would have in prison, I can certainly see suicide as a logical conclusion.

Tangentially related, one of my colleagues during my working days had paid his way through college earning money as a prison guard in Texas. He said there was a reason child molesters were the lowest of the low in the prison hierarchy: Virtually all inmates have themselves been physically abused as children, and most of them have been sexually abused as well.

So when a child molester does time, the inmates get their revenge…and no amount of it is enough to erase the memories.
