Well . . . Most of us.Amen to this...I am still amazed at how many "fans" have their entire ego dependent upon 18-21 year olds who will never know their name. Enjoy the game...but the game does not determine our sense of self.

only 2 teams since 2010 have had below a 60% and won a national title. There are about 8 teams that Vegas gives a shot at winning the national title this season. it is no coincidence they all have blue chip ratios above 60 percentAlabama really obscures the blue chip data because of how well Saban recruits (there's also a little bit of a loop where once Saban recruits someone the services take a closer look at the recruit and might move them up). With no Alabama it would make it seem like 50-60% is probably adequate.
What it does demonstrate though is you do need some good recruits to win, it can't all be coaching them up.
5 of those title teams are Alabama though. It would be interesting to see the blue chip ratings of both teams in that championship game, but I would argue that there's not that much difference between 50 or 60, clearly not every team needs to be Alabama level or blue chips to win a championship. 6 teams on that list are not Alabama, and their average was 58... Also, interesting use of since 2010 as well because the list includes 2010 and included 3 schools below 60%, hehonly 2 teams since 2010 have had below a 60% and won a national title. im not saying Saban doesn’t develop recruits. I’m not saying a high blue chip ratio means you win. What I am saying is that the numbers back up that a team can’t win a national title without top recruits.5 of those title teams are Alabama though. It would be interesting to see the blue chip ratings of both teams in that championship game, but I would argue that there's not that much difference between 50 or 60, clearly not every team needs to be Alabama level or blue chips to win a championship. 6 teams on that list are not Alabama, and their average was 58... As to the favorites thing, isn't that kind of obvious? The team with the most talent going in is going to be a favorite, that's kind of self explanatory. Some of those teams with lower blue chip rating did kind of come out of nowhere, and that does happen from time to time.
I'm not arguing blue chips don't matter, though, I said it matters but Saban just makes it look like it matters more than it actually does. Alabama doesn't just win all those championships because of the recruits, it's what he does with those recruits that matter the most. I can also show data to demonstrate that Alabama does better with 5 stars than pretty much any other school, and that other schools absolutely loaded with blue chips have not enjoyed near that level of success...
What was Texas' blue chip rating last year, when they went 5-7 and got beat at home by Kansas?
Vegas has Oklahoma at +200, Texas at +275, Oklahoma state at +550 and Baylor at +600 to win big 12Baylor is picked to win the Big 12 -- how many blue chippers do they have??
That being said, you need a high percentage of better athletes in order to win at the highest level. Common sense...
I think he was going by this:https://www.espn.com/college-footba...edia-preseason-pick-win-big-12-football-firstVegas has Oklahoma at +200, Texas at +275, Oklahoma state at +550 and Baylor at +600 to win big 12

I do have to say I find the Vegas infatuation with Texas to be pretty puzzling.
Baiting the enormous herd of “Big Hats” into dropping more “Texas Money” on their team by stroking their “Ten-Gallon-Egos”…..?I think he was going by this:https://www.espn.com/college-footba...edia-preseason-pick-win-big-12-football-first

I saw that Texas lost two starters after their first scrimmage. This is a big deal and should be devastating to them.Baiting the enormous herd of “Big Hats” into dropping more “Texas Money” on their team by stroking their “Ten-Gallon-Egos”…..?

could Saban turn vanderbilts program into a national title contender with his staff and an open check book? I think he could. Could Saban be a national title contender with vanderbilts current roster? NoPlayers matter
That's what I'm saying, players matter, even with Saban. There is a point where great coaching reaches its limit with a player limited in talent, especially elite talent.could Saban turn vanderbilts program into a national title contender with his staff and an open check book? I think he could. Could Saban be a national title contender with vanderbilts current roster? No
this isn’t to say anything negative against Saban because that’s not remotely the case. It’s just agreeing with the statement that players matter
I'm curious about his blue chip rating in 2009. Remember Alabama already was a contender in 2008, despite mostly working with Shula era players.could Saban turn vanderbilts program into a national title contender with his staff and an open check book? I'm a big fan of Napier. I hope he does well at UF, but never at Alabama's expense. If he has success at UF he would be one of the candidates I would want when CNS decides to hang up the hat.So much hype around Napier he better win pretty quickly.
