In all honesty where does Sankey go after this move? Is ESPN willing to pony up more money and secondly it makes you wonder why the SEC’s previous media rights deal with CBS was lower than what it should have been

I believe this sends a POWERFUL message to Notre Dame...
Perhaps.

It all depends on what Notre Dame can get out of NBC. And seeing as how NBC only gets 7 games from Notre Dame each season, I don't see how in the wide world they can command the 70 million per year they seem to be wanting.

I think NBC is clearly showing they want in on the college football market, and that Notre Dame home games are not enough. So... maybe you're right.

The SEC got shafted royally by CBS. And now CBS has over paid for an inferior product. Idiots are running that corporation.

Again, this is stupid on many fronts for both CBS and NBC. Seriously think about it… how many great Big 10 games are on each Saturday? With Fox not having to worry about Texas or Oklahoma, the attention is going to be fully on Ohio St, Michigan, USC, and PSU. Both CBS and NBC are going to be hoping Nebraska and Wisconsin are good so they could get some good views.

Notre Dame isn’t worried at all about this… They are probably saying “Didn’t NBC go all in on the XFL too?” If anything is concerning to Notre Dame it would be the B1G schedule preventing them playing USC. Other than that this doesn’t make Notre Dame shiver at all…

Power move to convince ND to come over seeing a small portion of their traditional rivals reside in the Big10

Oh it clearly is. Fox retains the big match up each Saturday at noon. There are going to be several Northwestern vs. Iowa match ups for that 3:30 CBS game each Saturday.

Well ND has seen that for some time and still said “yeah we are good as is”

Unless the B1G actively starts to pursue Stanford and Washington or them telling USC that they can’t play ND then I really don’t see Notre Dame being compelled to move on from being on NBC for 6 and ESPN for 6.

I have a feeling that the B1G gets USC to jump next year and Washington and Stanford submit requests to join in the off-season. Then the war over NC starts because the question becomes “who comes with ND”.

The big matchup is not at noon -- but at either 3:30pm or 8 (EST). Those times will have more viewers...and the stadiums will have more of a chance to be rocking. IMHO, the Big 10 has done an end run around the SEC on this one by having 3 networks show their games...time will tell.

You are forgetting two vital things… 1) Fox doesn’t care if 2:30 is better than 11am (see Bama vs Texas) and 2) the B1G traditionally plays bigger games at either 11 am or 7pm.

We are just too accustomed to CBS not wanting to compete with ESPN that we forget that if a huge game is at 2:30 or 7pm it really makes no difference.

Fox will care when their games are an after thought -- part of the BIG 12 beef is with this start time.
