Hopefully, Jalen Milroe has NOT read this thread.
I certainly hope none of our players are reading message boards...even this one. But I think if JM is thinking right, he'd agree with what I believe is, for the most part, fair criticism.
Moon, astoundingly there have been several posts on this thread that challenged Nick Saban's ability to make a tough decision, one that went so far as to say he's may have stayed too long. This after a win.
Secondly, our team finds itself in a highly imperfect situation in which our single most important player can't play. We're trying to survive until he can. That's it. I never thought of Ty playing, maybe because I never expected Jalen to play error free. Undeniably, he struggled to see the field against a defense that played its best game of the season. But he did a lot of good things, to the degree that each of his fumbles came when we were on the cusp of turning out the lights on A&M.
What bothers me most about this thread is the amount of invective directed at a very young player -- a player who very much helped us win a road game only a week before and is not being given credit for the good plays he made on Saturday night, only the bad ones. He made both.
I think you are correct that JM deserves some credit for the partial game he played against Arkansas. And, you are correct that he made some good throws against ATM.
However, I do think his mistakes were collectively far worse than the good he did with a select few throws. IOW, overall, his play was far worse than good. JM is really lucky he didn't have at least 3 more INTs to go along with his 2 fumbles. But his two fumbles did lead to 14 points by giving ATM a short field to work with both times they scored TDs.
I don't think most of this discussion falls in the "invective" category. We are not insulting his intelligence or assuming bad motives. Instead, we are discussing the play that is on display on the field. Again, I think he'd admit it was really bad if we could ask him how he felt about it.
I'm going to say it and it'll be my last time addressing this:
Milroe should be the backup QB for the rest of the season. He showed a sign of what he can do last night, and I know in my heart he can improve. This isn't the first time, we've had fans go in hot mess on our players. I'm going to start with recent one.. Jalen Hurts, Dylan Moses, Tua, Mac jones ( when he subs in for Tua when he got hurt) , Henry Too too, Mack Wilson, and many others.. same criticisms, same complaints,.... I'm just reminding ya'll. We as a fan have to learn to be patient and let the kids progress... We live and learn with them... We as a fan create so much pressure on players and we sometime don't realize that. Milroe will learn from this season and will get with QB coach in off season and will work his butt off to get better. Simpson will get better. We'll have epic battle in the spring, but for the time beging, We just need to make sure We support whoever who's behind the center....
Now, we should get on BOB's butt ... I hope he doesn't come back next year and it is unlikely he will... Given the interests he has for the other jobs.
81, I don't expect you to respond, but I'll say two things: First, I think the game threads can get over the top with player criticism too often. So I agree criticisms can sometimes get out of hand. However, I don't think this thread has inappropriately attacked JM. He's a scholarship QB at Bama with millions of people watching his every move. We can't help NOT see what we saw and what we saw was not good. Secondly, I do not agree with awarding someone a status on the team "for the rest of the season." If this is true, why should any #3 player bust his tail to earn more playing time? If a #3 at any position gets better than #2, he should be rewarded for his improvement.
