woah settle down it was the guys first collegiate start. QBing is mental and he was nervous. Folks don’t perform well when nervous.

The only time i remember saban benching a qb was jalen for tua otherwise his track record is to go with the designated starter boom or bust.
He pulled Blake Barnett for Jalen Hurts vs USC in 2016. He did this after a couple of series.

He missed 2 field goals. He hit one.

Not the first poster I have seen make that claim.
i think some folks got confused by some gary-ism. iirc, cbs put up a stat or mentioned that he had missed 3 of his last 4 (i think he missed his last attempt vs. bacon bits).

it was almost as bad as the stat they put up towards the end of the game that was based on if 8 & 4 were to pull off the upset

Anything to generate anxiety amongst the people watching the game.

WR is fine... field goal kicking is a crap shoot in the best of times. His misses were extremely close to being good. He just needs to flush it out of his mind and move on to the next game.

It would be interesting to see how many field goals are missed on the opposite side of the uprights after a missed field goal, assuming there's an over correction. Wide left to wide right etc.

Yeah they put the stat up like it had already happened

I think what hurt Milroe more than anything else is lack of game reps. Practice is great, but it's not game speed. Milroe was missing his zone-reads all night long, but really, that only improves with game reps, IMO. Right now, the speed of the game is just too fast for him. If you hesitate in this offense, the play is mostly likely blown from the get-go. He will improve over time, but the state of his development is what it is. We cannot reasonably throw him out there in Knoxville and expect him to make snap decisions after one week of practice. I find it highly unlikely that TS could be further long than JM at this point, so I don't really expect a change.

Hopefully it's all moot and Bryce is ready to go this Saturday. Word 'round the campfire is that Bryce was begging CNS to go into the game in the fourth quarter over on the sidelines. IF that's the case, I find this to be a very hopeful development.

So you guys are upset at the play of the young inexperienced guy and your solution is to put in an even more inexperienced guy? Just making sure I understand.
Both guys are inexperienced. One of them knows how to complete a forward pass and the other one can run. Just run. He can't pass. Watch him. Simpson grew up around football. His dad has been a coach his entire life. I can assure you he can't play worse than Milroe did Saturday night.

The difference is that we know from his recruiting process that he historically has issues with fumbling.

Also, while he may have only thrown 1 pick, it wasn’t for lack of trying. At least 2 or 3 more passes hit aTm players in the hands or numbers, but they just didn’t catch it. If he continues to make passing decision like that, he is going to be racking up the INTs.
Not to pile on what I think is fair criticism of JM, but this is 100% true. It could have (probably should have been) far, far worse if only those ATM boys didn't know how to catch INTs.

Hopefully, Jalen Milroe has NOT read this thread.
I certainly hope none of our players are reading message boards...even this one. But I think if JM is thinking right, he'd agree with what I believe is, for the most part, fair criticism.

Moon, astoundingly there have been several posts on this thread that challenged Nick Saban's ability to make a tough decision, one that went so far as to say he's may have stayed too long. This after a win.

Secondly, our team finds itself in a highly imperfect situation in which our single most important player can't play. We're trying to survive until he can. That's it. I never thought of Ty playing, maybe because I never expected Jalen to play error free. Undeniably, he struggled to see the field against a defense that played its best game of the season. But he did a lot of good things, to the degree that each of his fumbles came when we were on the cusp of turning out the lights on A&M.

What bothers me most about this thread is the amount of invective directed at a very young player -- a player who very much helped us win a road game only a week before and is not being given credit for the good plays he made on Saturday night, only the bad ones. He made both.
I think you are correct that JM deserves some credit for the partial game he played against Arkansas. And, you are correct that he made some good throws against ATM.

However, I do think his mistakes were collectively far worse than the good he did with a select few throws. IOW, overall, his play was far worse than good. JM is really lucky he didn't have at least 3 more INTs to go along with his 2 fumbles. But his two fumbles did lead to 14 points by giving ATM a short field to work with both times they scored TDs.

I don't think most of this discussion falls in the "invective" category. We are not insulting his intelligence or assuming bad motives. Instead, we are discussing the play that is on display on the field. Again, I think he'd admit it was really bad if we could ask him how he felt about it.

I'm going to say it and it'll be my last time addressing this:

Milroe should be the backup QB for the rest of the season. He showed a sign of what he can do last night, and I know in my heart he can improve. This isn't the first time, we've had fans go in hot mess on our players. I'm going to start with recent one.. Jalen Hurts, Dylan Moses, Tua, Mac jones ( when he subs in for Tua when he got hurt) , Henry Too too, Mack Wilson, and many others.. same criticisms, same complaints,.... I'm just reminding ya'll. We as a fan have to learn to be patient and let the kids progress... We live and learn with them... We as a fan create so much pressure on players and we sometime don't realize that. Milroe will learn from this season and will get with QB coach in off season and will work his butt off to get better. Simpson will get better. We'll have epic battle in the spring, but for the time beging, We just need to make sure We support whoever who's behind the center....

Now, we should get on BOB's butt ... I hope he doesn't come back next year and it is unlikely he will... Given the interests he has for the other jobs.
81, I don't expect you to respond, but I'll say two things: First, I think the game threads can get over the top with player criticism too often. So I agree criticisms can sometimes get out of hand. However, I don't think this thread has inappropriately attacked JM. He's a scholarship QB at Bama with millions of people watching his every move. We can't help NOT see what we saw and what we saw was not good. Secondly, I do not agree with awarding someone a status on the team "for the rest of the season." If this is true, why should any #3 player bust his tail to earn more playing time? If a #3 at any position gets better than #2, he should be rewarded for his improvement.

So who do we blame for the elementary ball security JM displayed? He didn’t get hit very hard either time he fumbled. He held the ball near his waist and with one hand. Easy pickings for fumbles.

He wouldn’t pull the trigger on passes. That’s scary.

He didn’t secure the ball. That’s unforgivable.

And Saban said Milroe played with a lot of anxiety in the aTm game. More game experience will help that.

Ok, I'll take the blame for that. Got really deep into the whisky jar by that time in the evening so lost my concentration. My bad.

Just looking at Milroe, you would think he would be a lot more physical as a running QB, but he seems to not like contact that much. Better get Simpson some more reps because if Bryce gets hurt again, we'll be in trouble.

I think he just completely lacks confidence (which is partially on coaching). He's just constantly over thinking and second guessing. There are times he would get more as a runner if he just planted his foot and went up hill

He needs to go through the running back fumble drills daily with our running back crew. That'll tighten it up 😅 🏈

he definitely didn't have a great game, but 3 of those select few throws led to 21 of our 24 points. that is far better than the 14 given up on his turnovers and other miscues
True, but aTm scored 17 points off Milroe turnovers. Our defense played great, but Milroe single-handedly kept them in the game. It was a truly horrible performance.
