Jalen Milroe is now the starter going forward.

If Simpson is giving a chance wouldn't he be allowed to start a game like Milroe and Buchner???

I'm really struggling to understand why the staff thought Buchner could be the answer.

Simpson has to come off the bench to clean up that mess and he gets what? Passed by the guy who was presumably the #3 guy last week.

I've never seen such a discombobulated mess.
2015 was pretty bad

I don't Ty Simpson has been given a chance. He may have only had 9 pass attempts Saturday, but he played well in his small amount of time. He passed for over 8 yards per pass attempt and the offense responded well to him being at the helm. I would love to see what he could do with some more time with the 1st team offense.
We will. After he transfers.

I'd imagine Simpson will be transferring at his earliest opportunity then. Simpson settled in fine, the offense looked somewhat better at the end of USF, but whatever......here we go with Milroe, prove me wrong young man.

Hope we have a plan when all the SEC teams we play stack the box, disguise coverage and have a spy on Milroe. Recipe for disaster.

Idk why either about Buchner. But we'll probably never know.

Simpson came off the bench and didn't really do anything. He had one nice throw I saw (apparently I missed one) and he took a few sacks that were his fault. I admit the OL was terrible but it was terrible for Milroe too and he at least made a few plays vs Texas.

I don't think Milroe is amazing. He's probably going to turn the ball over more than we'd like. I wanted Buchner and Simpson to get a shot vs USF but neither of them looked better than Milroe unfortunately. We would have scored more with Milroe in that game.

Let's hope. Clear that room out for Julian Sayin next year.
Let’s understand what this means. We are pinning our hopes for next season on a true freshman QB who hasn’t played in even a practice in college football. Off of hype. Over guys who will have been here 2-4yrs including this season’s “starter”. Ty Simpson was also hyped as a baller. So what this tells me is we probably aren’t doing to hot for the next 2-3yrs.

This is an absurd take.
Why?

Look-- Saban is the GOAT. But even the GOAT can be wrong and make bad decisions.

The way this entire thing has been handled REEKS. You dont go from starting QB whose done virtually nothing to warrant being it.. to suspended.. to starting the next week.

The program is sliding and this just signifies a huge red flag.

The players only meetings. He's lost control of this team IMO.

Maybe he'll get it back. Seems like there are some people that are trying to get it back with/for him. But right now... this is bad and looks like the titanic just hit the iceburg

One of the best things Simpson did is not go into a shell despite constant pressure. And he didn't turn the ball over.

The players got what they wanted so I think CNS is telling the team that it’s put up or shut up time.

I think Simpson is capable if called upon though.

We could have Mahomes under center and it wouldn’t matter if the blocking doesn’t get better.

One thing that seems so unnatural for Saban is to come out early in the week and let the opposing coach who is starting at QB so he has time to prepare. Saban always likes to keep opponents guessing.
With a players only meeting happening, maybe they've unionized at this point and that was part of the bargaining agreement.

I had the same thought. Also, I was surprised he even addressed the Steele/Kiffin comments.

But then I started to think about the psyche of this team. The difference in these players nowadays vs. even 7 or 8 years ago.

Coach is ALWAYS talking to his players at the press conferences... maybe he feels needs to go places in the media with these guys that he used to be against. Just a thought.

Milroe had the same constant pressure and came back with a few strikes vs Texas not to mention the 1st game.

Look Milroe isn't amazing but I don't think we should be shocked by this at all. Clearly practice also plays a role here too...
