They never should have given the 1-4 seeds to the conference champs. That is the dumbest part of this system. If we must have auto-bids for conference champs...fine, but don't guarantee specific seeds for them. That makes literally no sense at all.
I'm sure it was a concession to get the B1G and SEC to sign on.

Make no mistake, those two conferences are driving the bus, and if they don't like the way this works out we'll have two years of it, max.

This already shows how incredibly flawed the system is when BYU gets a Bye over tOSU.

HOW and WHY does the #2 have to play and the #9 get a Bye?

It's beyond moronic.
Because it's fair and that is what everyone wanted. "Everyone" being the teams not really all that good but wanted to be in they playoffs. Oh...and the media. Can't forget about them.

Two points:

1) Regardless of how we feel about it, the CFB universe has always put in more weight on conference championships than anything else, and that was probably a good thing until Alabama beat LSU in the 2011 NC game, and again when Alabama and UGA beat each other in 2 NC games. Now, we have proof that conference championships are not an end-all/be-all - it's a good data point, but not an argument-ender. So, keep in mind that conference champions in this current system will have a chance to get an AQ spot over a team that didn't win the conference, regardless of its top 12 ranking.

2) This is the first CFP rankings, and it won't be the last. Even in the Final 4 version, there's been some pretty big changes on those rankings each week in November. I get having a discussion and speculating, but some of y'all need to chill out. Alabama is probably eliminated if they lose a game in November, so Alabama needs to win out, regardless how everyone else plays.

TBF to the committee...they wrote the rules prior to the implosion of the P5...there is no P5 anymore. More of a P2 and then 2 others...keeping the same framework under these circumstances is idiotic. They should adapt, but they have shown no propensity to do so....ever. This first year of the playoff will be a mess as a result but at least it will be a learning experience for the committee

How has Georgia supposedly played the toughest schedule in the country? The fix is in. Tired of those puppies getting special treatment bc they won a natty two years ago. It's ridiculous. I'm not gonna go through everyone's schedule, but Florida has played a tougher schedule than Georgia. Georgia has played Bama, Texas, and that's it. They're obviously trying to make sure Georgia gets in even after they stumble down the stretch

UGA has played #14 Clempson, #4 Alabama, and #1 Texas.

FL has played #19 Miami, #8 Tennessee, and #2 UGA.

I don't care what the rankings say. Clemson is not a top 25 team. Florida has played Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. That's tougher than Georgia's, and I'm sure there are more teams with tougher schedules also.

I mean, if you're just going to use the 'because I said so' defense at least show your work.

Well, look how they played against an extremely overrated Georgia team. They looked like garbage. They play well against the mediocre ACC, until they don't. They also looked like garbage against Louisville. Miami is better than Texas also, so there's also that. I wouldn't be shocked if Miami wins the whole thing. Their offense is that good.
