Just for reference, the state of Alabama has 1 billionaire, Ohio has 7, Michigan has 11, and Texas has 73. The state of Alabama is surrounded by money in Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.
Arkansas-7
Georgia-18
Florida-97
California-136

In today's climate in college athletics, it only takes one person to completely change the landscape of a team. Absolutely crazy times...

The point is that we're talking about the same relative amount as a few $20 bills to a millionaire. Having billions of dollars available doesn't matter when NIL team amounts are literally 0.1% of that.
I saw an interesting stat about billionaires that was amazing. If you had $5B you could spend $100,000 per day for 100 years and still have well over a billion leftover. For reference, Musk is worth $240B so he could spend $4.8M per day for 100 years and still have billions left.

It can but Arkansas has the Walton's (Wal-mart) and the Tyson's (chicken) and yet they are begging commoners to donate to NIL since they are way behind.

As stated above, the right person has to care. Walton's and Tyson's give away a lot of money and are involved in some way but they aren't backing up the Brinks truck for recruits. I had a good friend who in the past few years was a coordinator at Arkansas. He said things have gotten crazy in the portal. He told me he called a freshman lineman that was in the portal at UF. The first thing the kid said to him is "how much are yall offering?". He told him, "Look man, we take care of are guys but we aren't giving away money to just anybody. You are going to have to come in and earn a spot and we will take care of you." He told me the kid wasn't that great and they were looking to get him to add depth to their current OL. Needless to say, the kid signed elsewhere and got paid.

The clock's ticking until that one person is a Saudi who buys an entire AD or conference

Not many billionaires would probably consider giving an 18yo millions to play CFB....and then see them transfer to another school a year later. The system is broken as we know...on the player / team side and probably on the donation side upcoming...investment requires some semblance of stability and currently its the Wild west. One interesting story - the former owner of the Milwaukee Bucks is looking to buy college programs..he's willing to pay up to $500M, he sees it as an emerging opportunity...now that is really concerning!

You left out the Hunt family of JB Hunt trucking. They are huge donors to the University (Johnelle, widow of JB Hunt, and the two children), but I’m not certain to their involvement in university athletics/NIL.

Yep. When we started hearing the talk of private equity firms considered getting involved in college athletics, you knew this would not be far behind.

The Waltons (as a whole) are just plain greedy, so I doubt they give anything to Arky for NIL.

Have no clue on Tyson...
The Waltons give away a whole lot more than people realize. They've got a 5 year plan of donating more than $450M per year with about half that targeted toward primary education and another significant focus on environmental aspects like clean drinking water and reduced pollution. They don't get a ton of fanfare as they focus directly on school districts and localized efforts instead of larger, more 'corporate' type charities.

The Tysons are a bit more close to the vest (well, except for the most recent CFO who couldn't stay out of trouble) and maybe hold onto a bit more wealth (the walls of the senior exec offices areas at their HQ are full of big time art that puts many museums to shame, but they generally well regarded by the locals in Springdale.

By chance did you see that stat on the Netflix documentary about Bitfinex? I just it last night

I did not know about the Hunt's. Arkansas has the Walmart name and logo on a facade on the inside of the stadium and Tyson's name and logo on both ends of their field but they obviously don't contribute much to their NIL program.

The Hunts maintain a much lower profile than the Walton and Tyson families. I actually met Johnelle Hunt at a medical education and prevention program about 10 years ago. The absolute nicest almost “grandmotherly” type. You’d never know she was worth billions. The people in NW Arkansas that work for JB Hunt will tell you that is the way she and her late husband have always been. If they were contributors to a NIL collective, it would likely never be known.

The Hunt family latest donation to the University of Arkansas.
