Let's not get too crazy on this. USC does have a tough schedule.

Cal, ND, Nebraska are tough teams, and Oregon and UCLA can sneak up on you.

USC doesn't fear anyone, and they actually schedule tough games out of conference. You have to respect that. Imagine if they scheduled patsies instead of ND, Nebraska, Arkansas... They could be in the Championship game every year.

Look at their recruiting the last four years.....loaded with 4* & 5* recruits........now they are loaded with talent galore.

Yeah, you know they are going to be in the hunt......big time....again....for the NC.

They've got to schedule tough non-conference games...otherwise they will be in the same boat as Boise St., with a terrible conference schedule and mediocre OOC sched. But I will hand it to them, I thought they were crazy playing Va. Tech a few years back, but they beat them and continue to play and beat other tough non conference teams

I think that their record against the SEC is 9-0 in their last nine games against the SEC.

They seem to do better in the big games, besides their loss to texas in the rose bowl they have only lost to unranked or low ranked teams in the past few years (Cal a few years ago, UCLA, Oregon St.) So maybe they should schedule more patsies......

They will be very good. The dropoff will come in 2008 if there is one at all. By then their OC will have taken a head coaching job somewhere and they will be breaking in a new QB. Even then they will be good because of how they recruit. The talent they get is rediculous. I wish Bama could have agents put our athletes families up in posh living quarters.

Notre Dame is not a tough team to play. Nebraska is a decent team, but nothing amazing. Cal is okay. Oregon is alright. UCLA is mediocre but seems to know how to play USC. USC's schedule is ranked highly year to year because USC doesn't usually play anyone god awful like Duke or Western Carolina.

A couple bits of information...

USC is not dropping off soon unless it's a "drop off" like this past season where they lost 2 games for very crappy football playing and had a chance to go to the NC game. They've recruited like crazy.

Second of all, their OC isn't going anywhere soon. He still has to prove himself as a capable OC. Lane Kiffin is also USC's recruiting coordinator, he's the guy that has brought in the last 3 recruiting classes, all of which were ranked #1. Like a poster above me said, they may only have 14 recruits this year, but their recruits combined have the highest *-average out of everyone, I think.

Finally, USC's schedule is going to be hard in the conference as they have to travel to Cal, Oregon, Nebraska, ASU, Washington and Notre Dame. For Pac 10 play, that is a pretty tough schedule. Cal and Oregon are strong home teams and have given USC trouble in the past. Nebraska is getting stronger. Traveling to ASU has seemed to be a problem for the Trojans, especially if the game is early in the season. Washington is an up and coming team that could challenge for the top 4 in conference within a couple years.

USC has a lot of crucial road games that are tough, but very winnable. Pete Carroll will have his team ready to play no matter what.

Thing about SC that everyone should keep in mind is that proverbial one or two games that they "take off" each year. On a yearly basis, you can count on SC to come into a "lesser game" without proper intensity/preparation. And, they'll either get lucky and pull it out (as they've done many times) or they'll lose it in bad fashion.

Somehow or another, them and LSU were in the same boat this past season... both could probably have been called "the most talented teams in America". In saying that, however, both of them primarily won games by only playing two or three quarters of football... not entire games. IMO, the BEST bowl game may have been that early anticipated LSU/USC matchup in the Rose Bowl. I would have paid money to watch the matchup... because both teams would have come ready to play and it would have been an absolute slugfest. If you could ever get either team to play four quarters every game... easy NC IMO.

Going to UW and ASU will be tough huh?

Like BAMARICH said, USC has that tendency to take a game or 2 off intensity-wise. Coach Carroll will always have the team prepared no matter what, and he ALWAYS coaches them to play all 4 quarters but somehow, the players don't always play up to their potential against lesser opponents.

UW won't be as tough but an upset can happen given the right circumstances. If the ASU game is early in the season, the heat will be a factor. Cal and Oregon will always be insanely loud whenever USC comes to town.

It's college football; weird things can and do happen.

I know we are all excited about our new coach and staff, but you can rest assured that we will not be in any sort of contention for the NC, much less the West (SEC). This year.

We will play hard. Our coach can assure you of that, but this year will be more of an "oh damn" kind of year for the players. The under-classmen will understand full to well.

What you will see is weekly progress.

I think LSU and USC have similar problems... They seem to get bored some weekends.. I mean... When those guys come to play, they can beat anybody with their talent.

Whew! I was so worried we'd be in NC contention and SEC contention next year! Thankfully I can now rest assured we will do neither.

It's college football, DREAM BIG! Save the cynicism for the NFL! :p :p
