Thought this information was interesting. Amidst the calls for more student tickets there are empty seats in the student section and unused tickets even for the Auburn game in an undefeated season.

Clicky

The fall 2008 chart released by the ACTion Card Office said more than 75 percent of student tickets were used for every game except for Homecoming against Arkansas State.

Student attendance peaked during the Iron Bowl, with approximately 95 percent of student tickets being used. However, only 62 percent of student tickets were used for the Homecoming game.

Alabama has one of the worst student sections I've ever seen. We've got a student body where a team can be #1, undefeated, on National Television during prime time, and yet still have a student section at 70% capacity? It's been going on all year long. Obviously, the student section is too large - I say make those tickets open to the entire fanbase and let the students get tickets the same way everyone else does.

Do you pay $6,000.00 dollars for your season tickets...?!?

That's about what it costs to be a full-time student @ Alabama

They get a discount on tickets b/c the price is actually subsidized by the tuition and activity fees,

Factor in the cost of TP, the cost of tickets, the cost of gas to get to the games, the cost of lodging...I bet some people do pay around 6 grand. If I came to every game from just 3 hours away, I'd be putting out around 2 grand and I am in the LOWEST level of TP with only 2 tickets.
When I was at UA, I went to almost EVERY game...including those in B'ham...and we SUCKED for most of those years. It would be nice to see close to 100% since most of the students only have to come across town.

The AD receives no money from the University for football operations - it's actually the other way around.

And FWIW, I know several folks who pay quite a bit more than $6k annually for their Tide Pride position and ticketing.

Hey Pal, before you guys attack 'the student section', you should take an actual look at the attendance gaps. Typically students get there when the gates open, not when you Tide Pride members roll in 30 minutes before the game.

The holes in the attendance come from the fraternities and sororities. The regular student section is just as devoted and dedicated as anyone else who fills the stadium.

5% no show is awesome when you consider that the game was played during Thanksgiving weekend! Even students have other obligations during holiday weekends.

I am not sure why the Miss state game got poor attendance, but who could blame them for not wanting to attend a game against Ark State (Homecoming isn't what it used to be). I like the ticket donation program.

Another part of the new system was the ability for students to donate unused tickets to students who did not have a ticket for the game.

The use of the donation system increased by 91 percent between the first game against Tulane and the second-to-last home game against Mississippi State. For the Mississippi State and Homecoming games there were more tickets donated than the number of students on the waiting list.

I think that some of you may have forgotten how tough life can be for a full time student. Many students also hold down jobs, and if you are in a difficult discipline, there is a ton of work to be done outside of the classroom.

I think that every student should get a ticket to every game, even if it means that no one else gets a ticket. College football is for college students first, not rich folks who have the money for club memberships...

I'm sure that AngryEwok knows this, but probably just doesn't care.

Part of this problem is with the transfr over fee that the uNiversity charges to get non-students into the student section.

IF they were to remove this or bring it back down to $25 (currently at $50) then students will have a better chance to sell their tickets if they choose not to go for whatever reason.

Everyone hates the hassle and expensive cost of have to buy the ticket and then transfer - price builds up. People would rather get general admission.

This would keep capacity closer to 100%.

Thank you. 95% attendance is fantastic, given the circumstances. The student section (minus the Greeks) was standing-room-only even 90 minutes before kickoff. Our corner was packed before anyone else bothered to walk through the gates, despite it being 30 degrees. The students showed up in a huge way last week, and anyone who denies this is simply trying to stir the pot.

And I seem to remember the weather being atrocious during the Miss State game, which likely impacted attendance.

Even the stairs were filled. I wouldn't hate on the student section that has to get there 2 hours early in the rain or the freezing cold. I haven't missed a game. Also, like others said, I had 3 tests that Monday/Tuesday. 95% attendance is fine.

Bottom line: All tickets not used = NO REASON TO INCREASE SIZE OF STUDENT SECTION.

Like was said earlier...your $6,000 is for an education...not football tickets. Be glad you only pay $5 for an Iron Bowl ticket.

As for the transfer of a student ticket to a student-guest ticket...when I was there at the University it was the difference in the price of a regular ticket and a student ticket. So essentially...it's $5 less than face value. For non-conference games it's cheaper and for big SEC games it's more expensive.

We don't need to get into the whole students vs. Tide Pride thing again...not the day before the biggest game we've had in nearly a decade. C'mon folks...let's all get along and beat those gators!!!
