JessN: DeBoer is building something: What it is, is the question

Prior to last season I mentioned that for SEC teams, the general rule is that you lose an extra game per year if you change either your offensive or defensive systems. We changed both. In my mind, we were about a 10-2 team. With the "system change penalty" we would have been 8-4 in the regular...

JessN: Five Questions as Spring Practice Nears End

He injured his knee very early on in the spring and didn't kick much. I believe he is most likely to redshirt this year and Blake Doud (grad transfer from the Colorado School of Mines) will be Alabama's punter.

    JessN: A-Day wrap-up: What it wasn't, was A-Day

Huge reason for that: It's called a collective bargaining agreement. There is one in every pro sports league where the players are unionized. There isn't one in college sports. Yet.

JessN: DeBoer is building something: What it is, is the question

DeBoer is building something: What it is, is the question by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief When the spring transfer portal closed late April, Alabama stood alone, or at least in very rare company: No Crimson Tide player declared for the portal during its spring period. For those...

    JessN: A-Day wrap-up: What it wasn't, was A-Day

You're not wrong. The problem (and Cam Newton's comments show that he doesn't understand the issue fully, either) is that it's virtually impossible under the laws of the USA to limit anyone's earning potential. About the only way to do it is via an employee-union collective bargaining agreement...

    JessN: A-Day wrap-up: What it wasn't, was A-Day

After I wrote that, I noticed that Rodney Orr over at TiderInsider estimated it at 12,000-15,000. I may not be right at 5,000 but I think I'm closer than he is. Want to feel even sadder? They had an autograph session on the field afterward. If you aren't a member of Yea Alabama (a separate...

    JessN: A-Day wrap-up: What it wasn't, was A-Day

A-Day wrap-up: What it Wasn’t, Was A-Day by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief To borrow heavily from Andy Griffith, it was football, but what it wasn’t, was A-Day. Alabama concluded spring practice Saturday with what amounted to an exhibition practice. Of the 90 minutes of practice...

JessN: Five Questions as Spring Practice Nears End

I think Simpson has the skills to be one-and-done as UA's starter. The question about Simpson from Day 1 has always been the mental maturity part of it all. I'm not saying he's out raising hell every night or is a bad citizen. We're talking about being cool under fire, learning from mistakes but...

JessN: Five Questions as Spring Practice Nears End

Five Questions as Spring Practice Nears End by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief While Alabama won’t be playing a traditional A-Day game in 2025 – indeed, Alabama might not ever play a traditional A-Day game again, nor might any other school – there will be a public practice to close...

I've been told we've got 1-2 more we're looking at that we are waiting on the championship game to finish up first. The portal will open for OSU and Notre Dame for 5 days after the conclusion of that game.

They like Kevin Riley a lot. He's the local kid, a bit smaller than what we typically use but he's got some dog in him.

JessN: A Look Ahead to 2025 Roster Moves :: ADDED - 2024-2025 Portal Tracker

Yeah, the last couple of games when Formby came in for him, the level of play at RT went up. Pritchett did do fairly OK replacing Proctor at LT in the bowl game, though. Not going to make a big deal of it but the locker room may have gotten better with this one.

JessN: A Look Ahead to 2025 Roster Moves :: ADDED - 2024-2025 Portal Tracker

This is a big one ... Elijah Pritchett into the portal. Not completely shocked about this but it still creates a numbers crunch at OT.
