Can someone explain to me why so MANY people are so giddy about how special Olaus Alinen is?..I mean maybe he is. I dont really see it. But I am wrong a lot.

Yes SIRRR!!!....So would I....he is a wrecking ball.Along with Damon Wilson....I would like to snag Russaw
Well, 46 offers from just about everybody who is anybody is a good place to start, don`t you think? Notre Dame is the only " top " school that I see missing from his offer list. Obviously, there`s no guarantee that the kid will be an All American, but that`s true for everybody, especially along the O line, which is notoriously difficult to evaluate because translating high school level accomplishments to top level collegiate O line play is something of a crap shoot. NONE of these kids have seen the strength and speed that they`ll see on the collegiate level. Sooo... much easier IMO for skill players to start and even excel early on in college than it is for a high school O lineman. Can someone explain to me why so MANY people are so giddy about how special Olaus Alinen is?..I mean maybe he is. From what I understand usually high school OL are usually the latest to full physical maturity...hence the difficulty in evaluation of what they will be like in 2-3 years. Many times RB's are fully mature in HS...some even peak there.Well, 46 offers from just about everybody who is anybody is a good place to start, don`t you think? I`m sure that`s true. I also suspect that technique wise many high school linemen are lacking. From what I understand usually high school OL are usually the latest to full physical maturity...hence the difficulty in evaluation of what they will be like in 2-3 years. I never thought of the this but I think you're right. When you're smaller and 16,17, you will probably grow a little but not much, usually. But big guys can keep growing toward 20. Big difference. Good call on on Dickerson, olaus is similar kind of player, man it seemed that lance played here forever, even being a transfer.Well I have said and think that Miles McVay is a better prospect down the road. As is Formby. But that again is just me. And I am wrong all the time. I didnt think that Seth M would play a down in THE SEC...As an example...But he is battling his butt off to top the depth chart at Center. As far as 46 "committable" offers for Alinen?...I dont know about that...Plus..I believe Alabama is far from done recruiting Mauigoa and Okunlola for starters. And Proctor, who may appear to be very solid to the Hawks... I like those 3 better.. Plus Booker,Latham, and Pritchett who are already getting some "Wolf" education. Which is a good thing...But who knows?...Recruiting is very fluid...And we got Tyler Steen in the Portal with 33 starts in THE SEC,and guys like that will probably be there every year going forward under this format....I may be missing something..Big Olaus may be the next Dickerson for all I know. Hope so,if they reel him in.
He sure gave our guys up front a Toughness Identity and is still doing it with the Eagles...He was/is a Special young man who endured a season-ending injury in 20 but worked his rear-end off for a high-end 2nd Rd Contract....Landon was something else in his time in TitleTown....Good call on on Dickerson, olaus is similar kind of player, man it seemed that lance played here forever, even being a transfer.
Olaus needs a year or 2 with Conditioning program and He brings lot of good things to the field.Good call on on Dickerson, olaus is similar kind of player, man it seemed that lance played here forever, even being a transfer.
I could have missed it, but I've not seen a lot of over the moon, 'giddy' stuff about Alinen. He's rated as a solid player, but not a superstar, and honestly would be one of the lower rated OTs on the roster if signed. that said, he's got big time height and length, plays very fluid for a guy that size and from the few highlights, likes to block his guys all the way to the ground, which is a plus from an attitude standpoint. He'd have work to do with the S&C staff for sure, but it's a reshaping and building effort. He gets attention on this board because he's the next target up as an OT, and we all know we need to keep bringing in reinforcements along the OL.Can someone explain to me why so MANY people are so giddy about how special Olaus Alinen is?..I mean maybe he is. Mcvay plays with a lot of power and good hands, but comparatively, doesn't seem as fluid - when he gets to his guy, he gets him, but I can see the concern of him not being able to get there against SEC edge players and into the second level. Right now, he seems more roadgrader than pass protector and appears to have only played at RT so I'd guess that's why he's seen with a lower potential. He'll have a LOT of S&C work ahead of him to lose some bad weight, not just a reshaping effort, to become an OT, so might end up inside somewhere.Well I have said and think that Miles McVay is a better prospect down the road. Hope you are right if we get some ink from Alinen in December. He just is going to have a lot of experience and competition negatives considering where he has been and where he is now.,trying to learn how to play.I would say we wont have ANY problems with his retention and cognitive skills And 1 thing about rather Large Olaus and WAY TOO LARGE RIGHT NOW Myles?....You cant teach big and/or size...I really couldnt be happier with the Teacher we have now of our O-Linemen,and CNS hopefully locks Coach Wolford up for as long as he can before he becomes a HC...Marrone is/was a VERY knowledgable football Coach. But he was accustomed to having finished products, whether they were average to good per NFL standards, and player development took a backseat to "win now this season".If they couldnt block me or you they would ship them out and find someone who can. Coach Wolf will develop these young men. I have been thrilled about the new staff. And I am one who believes the Coach Roach needs to up his game this season, and we will see if that is the case with some of our young guys like Payne,Keenan and Oatis for example.I could have missed it, but I've not seen a lot of over the moon, 'giddy' stuff about Alinen. I can see why the buzz on Formby, played RT and LT last season and has a lot of fluidity for that size and length - being a legit 6'7" gets him a long way in a lot of ratings just for the potential of what that can mean. Most of the evals do mention he's going to need to add strength, and from the film, he would appear to not have quite as much power as the other two so he's also got S&C work to do, but his is almost purely additive, which some guys are able to do, and some are not.
Roach has developed Barramore and Mathis into 2nd round draft picks with only a year of real starting experience each. Mathis had 9 sacks from the nose a year ago.Hope you are right if we get some ink from Alinen in December. Not really. From 92-2001 He was coaching in college rank.Marrone is/was a VERY knowledgable football Coach. Roach has done great job with the DL line. He did great. He don't have to prove anything. he can coach and develop.

Roach is solid, in fact, our staff is excellent, always good to see a player come back and be a good coach. Unfortunately roach will be poached, but that's life. Get Smith and Renaud, and we are cooking with gas, probably Georgia natural gas, of which I am a consultant, sorry, had to plug my buddies. Kidding aside, The DL will be good.. Confidence level is high. Not really. From 92-2001 He was coaching in college rank.
2002-2020 Was in NFL.
He has balanced experience... so the issue was his coaching OL scheme. It showed when He was in jacksonville and Bill. He struggled. He didn't adapt when he should've. Pendry had to step in late in the season to correct some of the issue we had last year. This wasn't a good take.
But
Roach has done great job with the DL line. He did great. He don't have to prove anything. he can coach and develop.
I'm not necessarily sure Roach will leave Bama any time soon. He's making over $700K/year to coach at his alma mater, which also happens to be the best program in college football right now. I know Bama fans are used to seeing their assistants leave for a position that gives them more responsibility at another program, but I do think the fact that Roach played for Bama might make his situation different.Roach is solid, in fact, our staff is excellent, always good to see a player come back and be a good coach.
