Diego Pavia on Alabama game: 'If we play our game, it won't be close'

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Shorthorns- does this mean Oklahoma? Of all the the teams you mentioned, I am most concerned with Mizzou. Mainly because they are next, but also because the game is on the road. They are also a very balanced team (though they really have not played anyone)

Texas. And I was referring to Vanderbilt's upcoming schedule not Bama.

Pavia will get drafted to the CFL or one of the lower classed leagues. He is a scrapper at the highest level and you have to respect what he has accomplished to this stage. Yea, maybe not as humble as we are supposed to be but dude is still just a kid.
I thought that about him last year. I do tip my cap to the guy for how he plays. He is tough and plays hard and gets the most out of his ability because of those characteristics. Unfortunately, it seems our society now teaches people to be disrespectful and obnoxious by rewarding the brash, cocky, and disrespectful behaviors of people. Also, I don't consider a 25 year old man to be a kid. I hope he continues to play hard, but I also hope he learns some life lessons from his mistakes.

I refuse to respect any athlete or their accomplishments who doesn't respect others. I cant stand the guy and him grabbing his crotch toward the fans pregame and taunting them by practicing the kneel down are a few reasons why. In another day and age of football, he would have already been put into concussion protocol several times. I was hoping one of our defensive ends would catch him just right and hit him so hard his helmet would fly off with his head in it. He's a loudmouth punk and doesn't deserve anyone's respect

Does anybody know what the post-game kerfuffle between Pavia and some Alabama players was, and whether he initiated it or Alabama guys did?
There was a fan shouting at him as Vandy was leaving the field at the tunnel. The fan started it I think. The fan was letting him know he didn't appreciate all his brash talk before the game. Lots of curse words being exchanged so that's why I didn't post the video.

Fan: “Pavia! I’m letting you know I don’t appreciate all your brash talk before the game! And grabbing your crotch is right out!

Pavia: “My apologies good sir!”

Fan: “Cheers!”

Pavia grabbed his parts before the game before the game right in front of the student section and was taunting them before the game. So the fan went after him afterwards. Basically Pavia asked for it.

Johnny Football and Pavia are really not as similar as people try to make them out to be. Johnny atleast could make fun of himself and take ownership of his words in a less toxic way. Pavia is far more thuggish and overly confident in himself. He resembles far more of the Miami football culture of the 80’s and early 90’s.

JFTR… I’m talking strictly about how they trash talk not about the other antics involved in JM’s off the field issues.

I see an arrest in his future.

Other posters are right in that there's a lot of non-TF language. But the video is easily found on YouTube if you want to hear it. There's also pregame video of Pavia practicing the victory kneel-down. I've heard there's additional video of him grabbing his crotch at the crowd. But I've had my fill of Pavia and didn't search for that.

The postgame verbal exchange was between a middle-aged overweight Alabama fan and Pavia.

Looks like the Alabama fan was loudly asking where his [talk] was now. Pavia responded saying he'd do [as he pleases] at least twice.

I did note that a member of the Vandy sideline crew (not a player) repeatedly told the fan, "you're talking to kids!"

First, Pavia is 24. He's not a kid. He is, however, a punk.

Regarding the idea of college players in general -- in no way limited to Diego Pavia -- being "kids," I'm calling garbage.

They clearly want the trappings of adulthood (pay-for-play), but not the responsibility or accountability that goes along with that.

Sorry, players....you get paid a lot of money to do a job. You're no longer a kid. You're an adult. You're responsible for yourself and will be held accountable for your actions and speech. Including (or especially!) when your conduct shows you to be a loudmouthed punk.

I wonder if he’s just a kid is what is said when he’s a creep at the bar?

He’s a millionaire, too, so expecting some personal discipline from a guy who has been in college longer than some folks with Masters degrees shouldn’t be a high bar.

Im sorry, Im a former athlete (college) and I can't stand this type of disrespect he shows towards other teams and people in general. I wont ever accept it as "ok". Theres nothing wrong with cockiness but players like Pavia take it to an unhealthy and disrespectful level. Im also a baseball coach of young kids and I see his behavior through lense of the kids I coach. I'd never keep a kid on my team that ran his mouth like Pavia. He'd either curtail it or be gone.
