Big 10 vs SEC potential playoff teams

Big 10 has 3 teams right now....Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon. They've got USC and Nebraska looking to hang around. The other 13 teams are out. If USC can beat Notre Dame, they'll move up in the conversation. Maybe Washington could make a move?

SEC has 10 teams....Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Vandy....the other 6 teams are out.

The 2 conferences are not equal.

Ohio State beat Texas and Illinois. They've got Michigan as their toughest remaining.
Indiana beat Illinois and Oregon, struggled with Iowa. They should win the rest of their games.
Oregon has no solid wins now that PSU has spiraled. They have USC and Washington remaining.

There is no gauntlet of games for any of them.

Alabama beat Georgia and Missouri on the road and Vandy at home. Have Tennessee, LSU, and Oklahoma....plus two SEC road games remaining. That's ridiculous.

Ole Miss beat LSU....they've got Georgia and Oklahoma on the road. Their schedule is very manageable.

A&M beat Notre Dame.....have LSU and Missouri and Texas remaining, all on the road.

Georgia beat Tennessee, lost to Bama.....have Ole Miss and Texas and Georgia Tech.

Tennessee lost to Georgia....have Bama on the road then Oklahoma and Vandy remaining.

LSU lost to Ole Miss....have Vandy, Bama, and Oklahoma on the road.

Oklahoma beat Michigan, lost to Texas......have Ole Miss, then at Tennessee, at Bama, Missouri, LSU. They will probably be out after that gauntlet.

Missouri lost to Bama......have at Vandy, A&M, and at Oklahoma. They've got a shot.

Texas lost to Ohio State.....have Vandy, at Georgia, then A&M.

Vandy lost to Bama.....has LSU, Missouri, at Texas and at Tennessee.

It is unreal how hard the SEC schedules are compared to the Big 10 schedules. Ohio State would do fine with an SEC schedule, but I don't think Indiana or Oregon would this year.

The bottom line is the conferences simply aren't the same. One of them a meatgrinder, and the other is extremely top-heavy.

Nice post and thank you for spelling it out for the world to see. I think everyone knows it but few outside the SEC will ever admit it. We are about to expand to 9 conference games which will exacerbate the difficult grind in conference. Probably about time to succeed from the NCAA and take this thing to the next level.

That's one of the reasons the Big 10, their coaches, and their commissioner are laughing their heads off. Greg Sankey caved and agreed to a 9 game conference schedule, basically handing other conferences playoff bids over more deserving SEC teams.

Agree completely. And it’s only going to get worse. The incompetent and gutless Greg Sankey has bowed to national pressure and sentenced SEC programs to 9 conf games.

This on top of his pathetic negotiating skills that is probably costing each program $10+m per annum, as well as confining the conf to one broadcast platform. The B10 with their poor menu of games is all over the broadcast spectrum. The SEC has good games and sometimes great games being off loaded to the SEC network.

To top it off for Alabama fans, he treats Alabama, his bell cow, like a red-headed stepchild. 4 more teams had off weeks this year. And it’s worse than that as 2 more teams, 6 in all, were given an SEC off day to schedule Mercer and Utah State the week before. But even a few Alabama fans think we’re just imagining things.

Btw, UGA and LSU got similar treatment this year. But look at Texas. Sankey is sickening.
