What Freshmen, portal transfers, or JUCO transfers might contribute early this coming season?

I saw a few posts on the interwebs where some folks have spilled some details about what some players have asked for and gotten. None of the examples were from SEC schools I think but I'm sure there is some absurdity. One guy asked for "and got" a university employee to follow him around campus and film him. With that kind of narcissism and the distraction that large sums of money have a tendency to cause I believe future winners are NOT going to be the ones who just have paper talent, but more and more it's going to be coaches who can get them to perform together as a unit and focus on the task of getting better. I say "future winners" but really it's already here. Did anyone predict Indiana curb stomping the field? Not to my knowledge.

I said all that just to say that I hear analysts, They are saying our roster is not elite. I am not offended, I am not afraid, In fact I agree with them. But I believe our results are going to be way more about what the staff can get out of the guys who we do have, and to some degree it's about the guys we brought in, how hungry they are, how angry, how willing are they to outwork anyone they will face. If money was their motivation I find it hard to believe they are going to be like that. This sounds so much like the NFL because it pretty much is.

Those analysts couldn't name any roster in college football that will be "elite". Those rosters don't exist anymore. The talent has been so widely dispersed that "elite" rosters will be very few and far between. There'll be years someone will have one, but it won't be anything like the Alabama rosters during Saban's tenure. Those days are long gone.

but back to your question I believe due to being thin at the positions WR Cederian Morgan and RB Ezavier Crowell will have a chance to make an impact. There's going to be a free for all competition at OL so some new guys are almost certainly going to be starters.

Some other guys, I assume Caleb Woodson will be given a shot since he's a senior transfer. I assume Noah Rogers was brought in to play not sit.

In the obscure category I would not be surprised if Mack Sutter gets goal line snaps as a fullback. He's technically a tight end but the only one with the body of an H. Alot depends on the weight room work.

I believe these two are your most likely candidates that will get the press.

Of course, any new offensive linemen that start and play well, will have as much "impact" on our success as any other player, but skill guys always get the most attention.

I think Cederian is already built like a 3rd or 4th year player, and since WR often are able to get on the field the fastest, he'd be my #1 player to make the biggest impact.

My hope is Crowell will be right there with him and, honestly, he's the one WE NEED to make the biggest impact, considering the problems we had last year with the OL/RBs.

I'll throw out a dark-horse candidate: the new JC receiver (Henderson, IIRC) looks like the kind of guy who could get some snaps too. It would be nice if he's a "sleeper" that turns out to be a "super-star!"

The thing with a guy like that, clearly he can run routes, catch the ball, get open for the most part. I think with him the question might be how big time corners want to intimidate and go hard at you in the first 5 yards, knock you off you're route. He's 175 lbs at last report and some guys never can make that adjustment, while others find ways to slip by. You just won't know til we get him on the field. Our secondary is VERY experienced. If he can juke them he will see the field

Shh. Don’t let the Slim Reaper hear this. 😄

He just needs to go watch some film of the Slim Reaper. That should show him what he needs to do.

I want it to be the offensive line. Need three solid starters and two serviceable players. Anything less and it’s going to be troublesome.

Then it’s Crowell. I want to see an emerging complete back. I don’t expect him to be college ready, I just want to see him get better each time he gets on the field.
