News Article: Alabama Football Stands Alone With a Record No Other Power 4 Team Can Match

Bruh Tennessee is 2-16 and Oregon 0-12 !!!

I hate being Vandy's lone win...Also, we're the only team with a winning record. Also, also, poor Arkansas having played #1 teams 27 times (my conjecture is that CNS was responsible for ~15 of those). ND has also played #1 teams 27 times, but have fared far better.

Only school with a winning record and it's not even close!!!

No other team is above .500, which is surprising.

The biggest surprise to me is that no other program has a winning record in such games.

Apart from that, the biggest surprise is that Florida State and Nebraska are 1-7 and 1-11 in such games.

Now, factor in Nebraska's decline since 1999, and you can understand the record being poor. But for them to have 1 such win all time? That is pretty stunning. Similarly, Florida State has fallen off it's 1980s/1990s peak apart from flashes under Jimbo and this current little snot they have as a HC. But still, during that 20 year run at the end of the 20th century, they didn't have more than 1 such win at all?

I wonder what their records AS the #1 ranked AP team were.

Both were highly ranked a lot during their peak so they probably won a lot of games as the #1 team but on the flip side if they were say #2-5 or something they lost to whoever was their #1 ranked opponent.

Fwiw CNS was 8-2 vs the AP #1 and was 7-1 at Bama vs the AP #1…. I believe the lone loss was to LSU in 2011

So pre CNS we were 4-5 All Time vs the AP #1 team which was still pretty good compared to a lot of other teams.

Indiana was #1 when we lost last season so that’s the other loss.

But Man CNS was a MACHINE!!

Yes they surely had several wins as the #1 team.

I think this stat is one that pushes Alabama over the top as the best program of all time.

Arkansas's 4 wins were:

1964 - over Texas 14-13
1965 - over Texas 27-23
1981 - over Texas 42-11
2007 - over LSU 50-48 (3OT) kept LSU undefeated in regulation ha

Arkansas was also 0-17 vs Saban and Bama......8 of those while Bama was #1

I'd bet that Alabama represents the lone win of more teams than any other as well.

Edit: tied with Miami:

School - opponent's lone victory over AP #1
Alabama (3) - Mississippi State (1980), South Carolina (2010), Vanderbilt (2024),
Miami (3) - BYU (1980), Florida State (2000), Nebraska (2001)
Minnesota (2) - Northwestern (1936), Washington (1960)
Nebraska (2) - Syracuse (1984), Arizona State (1996)
Texas (2) - TCU (1961), Texas Tech (2008)
Missouri - Kansas (1960)
Notre Dame - Boston College (1993)
Oklahoma - Kansas State (2003)
Ohio State - Indiana (2025)
