Bama Game Thread: OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD - Bama vs. The Hogs...

the 3-4-4 hasn't really been our base defense in years. It's still in the toolkit and we still release a depth chart with the positions listed, but it is very, very rarely used (like less than 5% over the last 5 years). The 3-3-5 (with a JLB and 2ILB) was the base look with the 2-4-5 as a sub...

Bama Game Thread: OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD - Bama vs. The Hogs...

After I saw this post, I rewatched the 4th because I didn't recall ever seeing the 3-4. We didn't. We ran the 2-4 grouping 20(ish) times, the 1-4 (2olb and 2ILB) 3 times and the 1-4 (3 OLB/cheetah and 1 ILB) 1 time. There were several times that we slid Anderson inside a bit and had the...

Bama Game Thread: OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD - Bama vs. The Hogs...

IMHO, having Cohen and Booker take over the guard reps was the first step toward the OL getting better. They are both drastically better than KR. KR does ok as the 6th guy blocking outside, but inside he just doesn't move the big dudes. SM taking over is the second step. DD gets pushed...

BOB`s Last Season As OC At Alabama?

There's other issues on the OL, but certainly the play called you mentioned with LOOONNNNNGGGGG developing routes and reads does not help them out at all. Even the best OL can only maintain a block for so long...

Question: We are several games into the season…is the OL improving?

I just haven't seen indications of this ceiling over last season and 3 games with DD. He's a tad larger, sure, but if he's stronger, it doesn't show. the DT for ULM knocked him backward a few times, and stood him straight upright a few times as well. He lets guys out-leverage and get under...

    2023 Recruiting: 2023 Recruiting Targets

Right, but does us adding several other edge players reduce our chances with Russaw, and therefore with the big DT we'd really like to get?

Stupid auto correct got me. Russaw... thoughts on him ..

    2023 Recruiting: 2023 Recruiting Targets

Getting back to our targets. Now that Renaud is in. Does that impact keeley or Russia? Does the offer to this ath/lb we've never heard of mean we're missing on someone else?

    2023 Recruiting: 2023 Recruiting Targets

I think it's all those on a case by case basis and I'd add one thing to your list: in some years we just don't bring in the talent, numbers wise, even if a class is highly rated. I went back and looked at all the OL recruits since 2017 and we just had gaps in recruiting 17 - leatherwood and...

Bama Game Thread: OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD - Bama vs. ULM...

Mac was/is also better at pre/post snap reads. BY isn't bad, but he's just not as fast at it and we're missing a few oppties b/c BY isn't getting through the reads quite as fast so we have some guys who pop open for a bit, but BY hasn't gotten that far. It's honestly a bit like Tua was...

BOB`s Last Season As OC At Alabama?

In one drive today I have seen more offensive creativity and variability from UGA than I have seen in two seasons from BOB...

BOB`s Last Season As OC At Alabama?

Agree, and the thing is, we don't even have to go up-tempo to an extreme, just get the play off with between 15-20 seconds left on the clock. Agree on sideline-to-sideline also and we need to stretch the field with the formations as well as the plays.

BOB`s Last Season As OC At Alabama?

I think coach Saban diagnosed it really well after this weekend talking about the 4th quarter. They changed up some of the things we were doing and spread the formations out more to give the WRs more room to operate - he mentioned it a couple of times actually Other than predictability...

"We overlooked the flaws of this Alabama team" (no run game)

I'd just put Seth in and not worry about Dalcourt. Ekiyor is a multi-year starter and has been very good. The other guard spot had Randolph take a lot of reps, but Cohen started all last year and was very dependable. Hopefully Cohen gets to where he can take all the reps soon because when...

"We overlooked the flaws of this Alabama team" (no run game)

Najee was a beast against UGA in 2020 for sure. He also had Landon Dickerson and Deonte Brown opening up holes for him inside.

Coach Saban comments on unnamed receiver

Well, I'd counter with if the WRs were doing their job at full speed and giving the QB the right options, the OL will look way, way better. Now, I've been pretty critical of the OL so this is more to the point that all the parts have to work together and sometimes an issue at one position...

"We overlooked the flaws of this Alabama team" (no run game)

so my counter to that point is that it only takes one OL to not be able to consistently maintain his blocks and your entire running GAME fails, not just a play or two. A bit of an exaggeration, but not by a lot...

    The Annual Offensive Line Discussion

so I forced myself to rewatch the game last night, annoying my wife and daughter significantly by rewinding and watching the OL play over and over, and IMHO, communication wasn't the issue Saturday (other than the Gibbs non-pick up on the blitz, and BY calling the wrong protection on his...

Question: Are Opposing Teams Good at Guesing OR Are We Tipping Our Plays on Offense???

So far, I think we would have to say they haven't made a big leap forward. Hard to replace Evan Neal and it was pretty much assured that whoever stepped into that role would be a bit of a downgrade, but we haven't seen him give up many pressures or heard his name called for penalties, so...
