The article is nuts. It's like drawing a line between two points and calling it a trend. Need lots more data points before the Big 10 can claim dominance. Meanwhile, the SEC has a pretty good collection of data points.
Here's another favorite game... It was in the 1970's; Neyland Stadium. I don't recall the exact year. Jeff Rutledge was QB. My wife and I had seats in the TN student section. (Don't ask!) Bear Bryant was leaning against the goal post in front of the student section watching warmups...
1. Sugar Bowl in New Orleans after the 1961 season. (I think I have the year right...). Bama vs. Arkansas. Visiting relatives in N.O. and parents took me to the game.
2. 1969 Bama - Ole Miss. Manning vs. Hunter.
3. Don't recall the year. Dak Prescott was the Miss. State QB and MSU was...
1966. Not even close IMO. 1964 title was decided before the bowl game. Bama lost the bowl game but had already been named the national champion. Sportswriters centered in the midwest weren't going to allow that to happen again so they agreed to name the champion AFTER the bowls in future...
I don't agree with forfeiting a game when stupid fans storm the field/court. Punishes the team for actions of stupid fans.
But, if that's the rule, perhaps a well-heeled alumnus can recruit a 100 or so kids to wear the opponent's jerseys and storm the field/court. :p
Abolish the conference championship games! They're an opportunity for:
- Best conference team to pick up a critical injury going into the "real" playoffs;
- Team that loses the conference championship game to be left out of the playoffs; and
- Ensures both teams are less rested going into the...
Hearty congratulations to all the cheerleader athletes!! Great job!! I hope the competition will be shown on TV sometime; I'd like to watch the cheerleaders in action.
After Bryant retired we tried the rotating door of coaches. Other than Stallings, it didn't work out. I hope we keep DeBoer and some level of coaching stability until - after passage of several years! - it's clear he's not the right person. But for now, he's the right person!
Furthermore...
That puts a wrap on what for me is a somewhat disappointing season. I really thought Milroe would be a Cam Newton clone when he got a center who could put the ball somewhere in his vicinity. Looks like I was wrong. I wish Milroe the best. I hope he goes pro and - with more extensive coaching...
At this point I'd take Bama straight up for the win. Bama weathered the worst first quarter I've ever seen them play. Mich. had 4 chances to score. 1 TD and 3 field goals. If the defense can continue to play like they're playing, and if Bama can find some different cleats, and if the OL can...
I'm disappointed... but we DID lose 3 games - two being horrendously bad losses. In any other year the playoffs wouldn't even be a glint in our eye. Bottom line: We had control of our destiny and laid an egg in Norman. So be it.
I'm hopeful we use the bowl game to get game practice for...
