    T. Boone Pickens ex-wife wanted "black people food" at her ranch

We still eat food like that @ the exiled ranch too. I'm one generation away from "If we don't kill, catch, or grow something, we'll go hungry." mrs. exiled grew up fetching the eggs from the chicken house and picking peas & turnips & such from the garden. Related funny: One of my grandmas was...

The Freebird went down 39 years ago.

A young friend of ours' Dad (lives near Gilsburg) helped transport a couple of band members to the hospital. He says it was brutal to see. I, too, had the flame-covered album back in the day. A sad day for many.

    Taking the plunge

Congrats!! I'm just over 32 years into married life, & am a BIG fan of it. BTW, you said 49 like that's old. I can remember being 49, but doing so tests the limits of my memory. Wishing you many years of marital bliss!

    Annoying Finebaum show

This. I didn't care for Paul when he was writing for the B'ham News back in my student days @ UA. Time & exposure has not helped my feelings toward him.

    Bears / Dawgs Game Thread

mrs. exiled & I went to the UM-UGA game, courtesy of our 2x Rebel alum son (who sadly had to work Saturday). It was a lot of fun, although incredibly warm. The guys around us--2 of whom we knew as friends of exiled, jr.--were hilarious throughout: "I don't like being ahead by anything in the...

50 years Ago today the Voyages of Star Trek Began.

...shortly after, this very short kid in FL began his lifelong quest into nerdhood. That was appointment viewing back in the day for me It's probably a good thing that the "science" portion of my brain never kicked in or I'd be really scary, since I'm pretty nerdy as is. :biggrin2:

Girl gives best birthday gift to stepdad, adoption papers.

Yeah, I think the tropical storm blew some allergens over this way too. Strange. ;) My niece just started her freshman year of college...17 years after my brother & his wife adopted her from way out in the woods Siberia. Allergies are rough, huh?

Say Something Nice About USC...? (We haven't done one of these in a while)

My freshman year roomie transferred out there rt before I transferred home to Bama. Both of us transferred to a school whose team we had rooted for growing up, so both of us were very happy! He's a great guy who lives near Laguna Beach & still goes surfing many an afternoon w/ all the...

26 Years Ago: Stevie Ray Vaughan Dies, And The World Is Suddenly A Much Darker Place

I saw him @ NOLA JazzFest just a few months earlier. Incredible show! He walked out, hit a note or 2, waved at the crowd, & then launched into "House is Rockin'" Within about 3 seconds, he had us at max crowd energy, & it didn't let up until he finished his last song. Just unreal to see...

Khizr Khan's Deep Ties to Clinton Foundation, Saudi Arabia, Immigration and more...

I've been there since the VP candidates were announced. <sigh> I've tried to ponder a presidential election with 2 less desirable major party candidates squaring off against each other. My first--& optimistic--reaction is, "Never happen." My second reaction is, "Holy Crap!" followed my more...

Netflix Docuseries on East Mississippi CC "Last Chance U" Trailer

My pa-in-law played there ~1949-50. He was on the team that went active duty when the Korean conflict broke out. 95 players went active duty! (There's a monument to them on campus with their names on it. I need to go see it, esp. since Papa's faith became sight last September.) Papa served...

Question: Anyone been to The Grove at Ole Miss?

Thx, CA. I've been multiple times, both when they played my Tide and when they played someone else. mrs. exiled & I enjoy it, though it is crowded. (We're going to the UM-UGA game this year, although exiled, jr. has to work) We've had largely pleasant fan interactions before & after. Of...

How much do you guys pay for a hair cut?

Nothing. I get mine cut for free. However, I usually tip quite a bit. My stylist is my daughter, who works at a high-end hair place near where mrs. exiled & I live. I'm hacked though; every time she cuts my hair, her scissors leave more gray/white coloring. Strange... ;)

What did you give up for Lent?

I gave up eating boiled rutabagas. (OK, I gave that up ~45-50 years ago, & not for Lent. But I've kept my streak intact & without blemish ever since. :biggrin2:)
