Anyone else catch the feature on Ben Wallace last night during the game? He's from Alabama; recruited to Auburn to play football; went to Virginia Union to play b'ball. He would have been playing with Antonio McDyess had we recruited him.

He did not realize his potential for about his first 3 years in the league with Orlando. Then, one day it just clicked. Could you imagine the front court of McDyess and Wallace? Glenn Robinson(Purdue) would never have gotten to the bucket in the NCAA tourney with both of those guys manning the middle. He is flat-out a stud!

Big story about him in ESPN Mag a couple years. Big Ben is from White Hall, AL.(very small town) about 15-20 miles east of Selma. He was recruited by Auburn but he wanted to play B'Ball & Football, & they didn't, football only. Story is that Charles Oakley, who played at Virginia Union, held a B'Ball camp. Oakley asked somebody to take him one on one, & nobody would, but finally Ben step out....Oakley took the to him, & busted his lip & scored, & said "Your Turn", Ben then took it straight at Oakley throwing him a forearm, drawing blood & scored...They have been Best Friends ever since. That is why he went to Virginia Union, Oakley got him there. They say Ben still goes to VU every summer & works out, a big tin gym, he calls it the "Seat Box"...that is how he is great shape..besides genetics. Ben is a homer...Here in Selma you go through White Hall to get to Montgomery on Hwy 80...GO PISTONS
