i knew a guy who worked on the hill when sessions was first there. he said it was pretty common knowledge that sessions was the biggest idiot on the hill (quite an accomplishment)

In the Washington Post, national security correspondent Greg Miller has a book review of former acting FBI director Andrew McCabe’s new book: THE THREAT: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump. What I found of most interest was McCabe’s assessment of Jeff Sessions. You probably won’t be surprised to see it confirmed that Sessions is a virulent racist and bigot.

...

I guess I’m more startled to learn that Sessions is so stupid that he can’t juggle basic concepts and that he didn’t even bother to read intelligence reports...

I guess I am just glad that he flamed out so spectacularly. He gave up a safe Senate seat to fulfill his lifelong dream of running the Justice Department, but it ended in disgrace with even the president trashing his performance on a regular basis. Not many people seem to get what they deserve these days, but I’m satisfied with how Sessions’ career came to an ignominious end. That Doug Jones won his Senate seat is just gravy.

Preaching to the choir. One of my coworker’s daughter (granddaughter?) works (worked?) for the elf, and said coworker knows him well (socially). Coworker is another of the clueless.

If he runs for his old seat next year I think he probably wins. I’d take him over Brooks or Ziegler, but that’s about it.

I've told this before, but my BIL was the director down at MSFC, in fact when Challenger blew up. At the time, he and my sister considered themselves Floridians for life, and they did end up staying there about 20 more years. He was invited to a reception in Mobile shortly after he was elected and Richard and Louise were seated across from Sessions and his wife. Shortly after, my BIL and I had a conversation. He said "Y'all have got a problem." (Meaning we Alabamians.) I asked him what he meant. He went on to say that Sessions didn't have brains enough to carry on a decent conversation, that they were unable to find a topic upon which he knew enough to be able to talk about it. Most attorneys had figured that out long before...

He was a crap attorney, anyone in the Mobile Bar will tell you...perfect puppet for the oligarchs, though.

Earle, were you personally acquainted with Howell Heflin?

Yes, I was. I met him when he was a plaintiff's attorney in the Shoals. He had files stacked all over the floor and a big greasy spot on the wall behind his chair, where his hair made contact with the wall when he leaned back... :D

I remember reading a story about him after he died giving some of his better quotes.

One really good one was when Clinton had nominated someone from Kansas to the federal bench. There was no controversy but he had to be approved by the Senate Justice Committee. The nominee was escorted by Kansas’ senators, Dole and another Republican. In his opening remarks, the nominee said he felt a little strange sitting between two Republicans. Heflin replied with “Now you know how Jesus felt on the cross”.

What makes me want to puke and hit something at the same time is that his core thinks this makes him a good businessman.

lots of folks are supporting him because of his brazen douchebaggery.
I only hope that Mueller's strategy is to turn over the criminal evidence he gathers on Trump to the SDNY and the New York State AG in order that they can pursue Trump and his family for the years that are required to take much of his property in forfeiture as a result of the years of money laundering he has been involved with. Mueller obviously can see the obstacles with the AG and Congress taking up a criminal conspiracy involving Trump and I can't believe that he would have his legacy to be allowing Trump to escape all of this unscathed.

I still think Junior has been hooked, and it’s only a matter of getting him to the gaff. Trump pardoning his own son might be the straw.
Trump ain’t getting out of this unscathed. Neither are his kids and that gives me some solace.
