Bodhi you've got to leave some books for the rest of us... :p

I've recently read:

Crossfire Trail by Louis L'Amour: Tobacco chewin', rough edged mercenary/sailor/cowboy escapes from a ship he was shanghi'd onto for the sole purpose of rescuing the daughter of one of the other shanghi'd guys who was killed by the captain from the clutches of a evil businessman/rancher. Has a sidekick named Tex Briscoe. A classic

Pillars of Fire- Battle for Messines Ridge by Ian Passingham: Pretty self explanatory. Execution of the Battle of Messines Ridge in 1917, well known for the massive mines that were detonated under the German trenches on the ridge-line. Set the stage for the less well executed (different Army group and staff)/ fortunate Battle of Paschendale (pt 3).

Sniping In France- Major H. Hesketh-Prichard: Lessons learned by the British officer who more or less developed modern sniping doctrine in WWI such as operating in pairs, building hide sites, observation & intel gathering, moving unseen in open ground, etc plus other cool details of trench sniping like the classic use of mannequin heads to identify the enemy bullet path and find their sniper nest and mortar it into oblivion, or replacing fence posts with observation periscopes that look exactly like fence posts.

Rules of Betrayal- Christopher Reich: current last book in 3 book series about a guy in Doctors Without Borders who discovers he has been married to a secret agent this whole time and uses his unique doctor/amateur mountaineer skills to find out what she has been up to and stop dastardly plots. Dude really needs to come out with a 4th book...

Battle on the Lomba- David Mannall: 1987 Battle on the Lomba River/Operation Modular where Angola attempted to invade South West Africa/Namibia (I think) with the aid of the Cubans with an armored column. The South Africans anticipated this and moved to intercept them inside Angola and aid UNITA. Specific experiences of David Mannall in this battle as a vic commander/section leader in a Ratel armored car BN that stopped the Angolans and essentially led to an end to the Border War. This was 6x6 armored cars with 20mm cannons and an occasional 90mm gun vs T-55s and T-62s.

Dingo Firestorm-Ian Pringle: Operation Dingo Firestorm in the Rhodesian Bush War in 1977-78 to eliminate the massive ZANLA/ZANU training compound at Chimoio in Mozambique. A culmination of the Fireforce tactics.

Gallipoli- Command Under Fire by Edward Erikson: The operational and strategic decision making that led to Entente failure in Gallipoli as well as the Ottoman success. Brits trying to pioneer doctrine for an amphibious assault of a hostile beach while ignoring supply, planning, and control problems due to the strategic possibilities of knocking the Ottomans out of the war and opening an unopposed sea route to aid the Russians. Meanwhile the Ottomans were employing lessons learned from their terrible performance in the Balkans wars of 1900-1913 and quite frankly had very easy terrain to defend.

Thats all I got for now.

"With The Old Breed" by Eugene B. Sledge
Most of you probably already know that this book was put together from Sledge's personal combat memoirs during his service in the USMC as a mortar man in the 1st Marine Division. Incredible read.

Recently read: "Fierce Patriot" by Robert L. O'Connell
An intense look into an interesting US Army commander during the Civil War
Named William Tecumseh Sherman. Book could be twice it's volume given the
amount of info that even I can think of that is not addressed. Still an
Interesting read.

"The Heart Of Everything That Is" by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin
Primarily about the life and times of the Sioux Chieftain Red Cloud.
Would certainly recommend this one. Hard to put down
