Jim Pyburn, 78, a former football All-American end and baseball player at Auburn and outfielder with the Baltimore Orioles, passed away on Saturday evening in Jasper, Ala., following a long illness.

I had the great pleasure and honor of knowing Jim. He was a coach at Oakman when I was in school, and his wife Ann taught at the elementary school. Later, I attended church with him. Jim was a wonderful person for whom I have the utmost respect. He will be greatly missed, but I know that he is rejoicing in Heaven.
