Everyone has given great options and the truth is it's really hard to go wrong anywhere in the city. But if you're in the mood for a steak, I highly recommend Dickie Brennan's (different than Brennan's).
Also, if you're 20/30ish and enjoy the nightlife, check out F&Ms Uptown and their cheesey fries.

Not to be confused with Masperos....there are two. Cafe Maspero is the original one and that's where you want to go. If you're looking for great poboys, Cafe Maspero is one of the best. The other two best poboys are at Mothers and Johnnys. My favorite is Mothers.....but it's a personal taste thing, do a taste test of all three and figure out your favorite.
All three are reasonably priced and breakfast is served 24/7 at Mother's (the ham is great for breakfast).

And they used to have a collection of loaner coats for the casual dressed touristers....for real.......not sure if they still do or not though.
I'd hit that....Muffaletta isnt bad either....here's a picture of mine last time i was in.
