Re: Auburn stepping up and beating Bama ... possibility?

We aren't losing to Auburn this year. First of all we are a good team that still has a lot to play for. Second, they might be one of the weakest teams in the history of the SEC. This one isn't going to be close.

The talk that this is a rivalry and anything can happen is a bunch of malarky. For the "anything can happen" to happen both teams have to be somewhat competent. They are no where near being competent. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate them maybe a 2 and that is being generous.

Re: Auburn stepping up and beating Bama ... possibility?

Furthermore, the worst thing that happened to Auburn was Alabama losing to TAMU because it puts a higher stake on this game: it is for an SEC title berth which is practically the only way for Alabama to even have a shot at taking the back door into a BCS title game scenario. If Alabama was sitting at 11-0 going in, I think Auburn might have gotten just one of those games where we put up enough points that we feel safe then suffocate them on defense.

Alabama's players are probably looking for an opponent to take to the shed after the TAMU game. WCU simply isn't going to be that team to them. Auburn will be. I expect it to be worse than 42-14 in all honesty. Alabama might be able to put on one of the biggest all-time beatdowns in Iron Bowl history if they protect the football.
Agree, but there are plenty of reasons for CNS to empty the bench before it got too messy. If we get up by 24 points (wait, lets make that 28 points) then it will be bench clearing time IMO.

Re: Auburn stepping up and beating Bama ... possibility?

Yeah, but it is a conference opponent. The starters will play into the third quarter even in blowout conditions. Coaches kinda like to get out there and kick a major conference team in the gut to start the third to remove any chance of a comeback. You'd hate to bring out the second-string to start the half, have them sputter around, the game gets a little closer than you'd like, then have to bring the starters back out when they've probably mentally lost their edge.

I'm all for risk mitigation over the next two weeks. Against WCU, it could mean the starters are gone by the latter part of the second quarter. Against Auburn, I think even if everything goes by the script that the starters will play at least one drive and maybe two in the second half.

If it can get our offense more confidence (and if we could avoid injuries) I'd say let 'em play the whole game. How bad would that get???

But, unless Auburn pulls a rabbit out of a hat and keeps the game relatively competitive I don't see the final score being record setting since we'll play everybody on the bench that's healthy.

Re: Caption This gif Of Auburns DC BVG

I'd be lying if I said i didn't feel sorry for BVG for half a second when watching that interview the other day. There's no way he had any idea the kind of dumpster fire he was diving in to..
I've alway liked BVG..I met him once & he was a really nice guy..The problems they're having now has been the same problems before he got there..And that's due too this being Chizik'z defense..They will have the same problems as long as Chizik is there..JMO

Re: Auburn stepping up and beating Bama ... possibility?

I'm with you, but dropping the hammer on the barn would be nice. At the same time, there is still a chance we end up in the BCSNCG so it would be foolish to risk losing a starter during a sure victory. Texas has a shot at KSU, and USC may pull an upset over ND. Oregon is so thin at the secondary they are looking at switching a WR to def back. Things could still work out well for us.

Maybe it's just me, but I would love to see us put a beatdown on them, one for the ages and record books. Even if the starters have to play into the 4th quarter a bit. 70-0 would just about do it for me.

Re: Auburn stepping up and beating Bama ... possibility?

I think 56-0 would be perfect. It would set the all-time record for margin of victory in the series, and we know the barn is "all in" to set records this year!

Heard on Finebaum last night that they have cancelled the last Chizik coaches show. That pretty much let's everyone know it is over.

This is why I think we keep it close to the vest against Auburn. Just win comfortably, but not by historic numbers. We've got much bigger fish to fry even if we miss out on the BCSNCG.

Agreed but by the same token Bama could put some style points up on them and go into Atlanta with some confidence. Saban has every reason in the world to blow out Auburn.

Agreed but if it's that bad, backups better be in.

Re: Auburn stepping up and beating Bama ... possibility?

While I think we could beat them with our 2nd team this year, I do think they have focused nothing but the Iron Bowl for over a month. It would not surprise me for them to play their best game of the year whcih probably isn't saying much, but Chizik's only chance to keep his job is to beat Bama. We all know the boogs live and die by that one game. All sins will be forgiven if Chiz manages to beats us.

That being said, it ain't gonna happen. The tiggers are terrible this year.

Re: Auburn stepping up and beating Bama ... possibility?

I think Chizik could beat Alabama and still walk right into the AD's office for his pink slip. They've already cancelled his post-Iron Bowl TV show. The writing is on the wall: everybody in the Auburn athletic facilities knows he is a dead man walking.

Style points can't be underestimated given the circumstances. I think the human polls are a big factor and a huge victory would help. I suppose I am still haunted by sitting in the stands early in 2004 and enjoying a great BAMA blowout victory, thinking of the good times ahead, and then watching Brodie Croyle blow out his knee while sliding out of bounds late in the game. We won 52-0. Hooray. It's a gamble at this point and I'm glad I don't have to make the decisions.

Re: Auburn stepping up and beating Bama ... possibility?

Not sure why you think this situation is similar to 2009. The 2009 Auburn team had talent, was at home and coming off a bye week. Alabama did not have a bye week before that game and it was a short week with the game played on a Friday. This team isn't nearly as good as 2009, we basically have a bye week with WCU coming up, it's a home game for Alabama and we will come in focused knowing we have to win to get to Atlanta. The sting of two years ago is still there too. If you think we are overlooking Auburn, you're sadly and sorely mistaken. Alabama can and will beat the ever loving crap out of them.
all great points, but they had one huge factor you left out. MALZAHN. enough said.
