A TN fan must have edited Jones' wiki page. This is what they entered about his hire at TN:

On December 7, 2012, amidst expectations by fans for a high profile coach, Jones was announced as the head coach at University of Tennessee. It is expected that Tennessee will see the lowest ticket and merchandise sales in their history. Jones is now making 3 million dollars a year, and is expected to start receiving his multi-million dollar buyout after losses to Vanderbilt and Kentucky in his first season. Tennessee does not want Butch Jones, but the athletic director and chancellor are from Alabama and Florida, respectively, and have no passion to see the University of Tennessee to be successful. Maybe the search for the next coach can start now and before Butch Jones gives Tennessee a even worse public image.

This is going to cause a temporary firestorm.

Here is what's underwhelming for me after a quick study on Wiki. He followed Brian Kelly at both Central Michigan in the mid 2000's and then Cincinnati in 2009 and basically held the teams in check for 3 years at each. The teams were already built imo. Tennessee is a rebuilding job. No experience.

Here is his record at those schools.....total of 6 seasons as a head coach at non BCS teams. This is a Mississippi State type coach, not Tennessee!

2007Central Michigan8–66–11st (West)L Motor City
2008Central Michigan8–56–2T–2nd (West)L Motor City
2009Central Michigan11–28–01st (West)GMAC*25
Central Michigan:27–1320–3* Did not coach bowl game
Cincinnati Bearcats (Big East Conference) (2010–present)
2010Cincinnati4–82–57th
2011Cincinnati10–35–2T–1stW Liberty2125

Now the question is does the Cincinnati job entice Kirby?

Many on here are under the opinion that Coach Smart:

1. Is not itching to leave, is happy with his top DC position.
2. Will only take a premier job like his peers, Muschamp and Fisher
3. Will Stay in the South, most probably the SEC with his former teammates and coaches.
4. That after the SEC teams are filled that he can get back to coaching. They are.

In my experience, the best way to judge a hire is the reaction of your chief rivals. For example, Saban scared the crap out of ours and caused endless ridicule for us.

My reaction to this hire:

YAWNNNNNNNNNN
