Very reasonable hotel prices and there is a bus traveling to Miami from Orlando for $100 roundtrip

It's not a bad drive on the toll road from Orlando....

Not bad. I could make it a day trip but I'm sure that hotel rates are through the roof at the point. I could go to Tampa and stay.

You could also stay in fort myers area and come across alligator alley , closer than Orlando

Lived in Orlando from 2004 to 2010. It is overrun with Gator Bowl, Outback Bowl, Champs Bowl, Orange Bowl, and Cap One Bowl fans prior to those games. Fun place to be at that time for a CFB fan.

If you are trying to save money by not actually staying in Miami there must be literally dozens of other choices that would be a heck of a lot closer than Orlando! I would look at West Palm or Boca Raton.
