As the ACC and Big 12 attempt to jointly circle their wagons in an effort to stave off other conferences from picking off their members, it looks like the talk of “aliiances” between the two conferences has sparked rumors once again that Jim Delany and the Big Ten might make a strike. It’s now rumored that Delany has reached out to schools such as Georgia Tech, Virginia and North Carolina.

National signing day is just around the corner (Feb. 6), and with things really, really heating up on the recruiting trail, we thought we'd take a look at how all 14 SEC teams are doing when it comes to finding the next college stars. The SEC currently has five teams ranked in the top 10 of ESPN's RecruitingNation class rankings and 12 in the top 40. Florida, which has 26 commitments, including 11 in the ESPN 150, owns the nation's No. 1 class. Alabama is second with 21 pledges (10 ESPN 150 members).
Here's how the entire SEC is doing with only a week left until pens are put to paper:

We’ve done this exercise for the past several years and it’s always interesting. Where did the players on the 2012 Associated Press All-SEC team rank as high school prospects by the ESPN recruiting folks? We’ll start with the offense and take a look at the defense later today. Notice that some of the most accomplished and decorated players on offense weren’t ESPN 150 members. That includes Johnny Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner, as well as Barrett Jones, who won the Outland Trophy in 2011 and the Rimington Trophy in 2012. In fact, of the 12 first-team players on offense, eight were not ranked as ESPN 150 prospects.
Here’s a look back:
