The Chukker or Archibalds
Oct 20, 1977 . . . Forty years since the airplane carrying Lynyrd Skynyrd went down in Mississippi.

I was in good ole Memorial Coliseum working on the crew setting up for the first date of the Kansas "Leftoverture" tour. They had been rehearsing there for most of the week.

The gigs' promoter had done LOTS of Skynyrd dates in the northeast and several in the south including the 1975 show in Tuscaloosa. Won't forget the look on his face when he broke the news to those of us in the building.

One of my favorites from the two-guitar version of the band . . "Double Trouble"

I don't like country, but I LOVE Chris Stapleton's music. If all country were this good, I'd be an avid fan.

Here's his newest track:

Goodness, he can sing his face off.

There is going to be a farewell concert celebrating Johnny Sandlin in Decatur tonight. Sandlin was involved in the emergence of southern rock and roll and produced many big hits over the years. Some of his old associates are coming to town to play, I'm really looking forward to it.

I hate to bump my own post, but I kind of want to brag what a nice event was held in Decatur. They had several bands Sandlin had recorded, but the highlight was when The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, also called the Swampers finished up the show.

I looked up the Swampers credentials, they played on over 500 recordings, 75 of them were either gold or platinum hits.

The event was free to the public, none of the performers were paid. It was an impressive tribute to a very talented and successful musician.

#######

Who are the Swampers? ...

"Now, Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
"And they've been known to pick a song or two
"Lord, they get me off so much
"They pick me up when I'm feeling blue
"Now, how 'bout you?"

Well, it's my oldest son's senior year. Here is his last halftime show as a member of the Oak Mountain "Spirit of Cahaba" before heading off to college at Alabama and being in the Million Dollar Band like his parents. Pay careful attention to the ending of the show. My wife made the very large silver special effect. You can't miss it. #GOOM
