Yeah, the internet in town there is not good much less outside of town, which surprises me. Having Smith Lake near us helps. Money talks and lots of wealthy people live out there. They want to keep them happy.

i'm heading over there on the 4th so hopefully will get more of the story and maybe help her figure something out. they had it through cable (charter i think) which basically never worked well and they switched to another one that was good, then stopped servicing that area for some reason. i think she had one other that said they could provide it, but they never could.

and it's just past corinth baptist on dime road, so it's not like she's in the boonies.

I like the price, but I don't like when the government competes with private enterprise.
I hear ya, but I make exceptions for natural monopolies where infrastructure costs prohibit meaningful competition. No one complains about their water being supplied by a public utility.

In theory I don't either, but shame on any private business that cannot undersell a municipality-owned broadband service.
There is probably some fat on the payroll at Fort Collins Connexion (whether it is the "Endangered Species Coordinator" or the mayor's cousin Biff who may not have any marketable job skills, but needed a job, so the mayor weighed in in his favor).

Comcast, beware: New city-run broadband offers 1Gbps for $60 a month

I don't know if government-run utilities represents a socialist affront to the cult of Saint Ayn, but damn I'd love if my city did this.
I'm ok with it on 2 conditions: They do not cheat (e.g. since they are the government they can make unfair rules to make themselves more competitive. ) And they do not require debt to make it work. Theyou should charge enough and be efficient enough to cover the costs associated with running this utility.
