Pit, you need to check this. Same name, different girl. Luke is married to the former Ashley Grantham making her Ashley Grantham Luke. Terry Warren's daughter is married and is Ashley Warren Grantham. Haven't developed the connection yet----I think there is one----but not what I originally thought.

Now to address history. The Luke family is neck deep. In addition to brother Tommy, their father, Tom, played for Vaught in the 60's and I think (I'll have to verify) the grandfather played in the 40's. They are as tied into the Network as you can be without getting any on you.

I caught some of the Bill King show this morning on 97.7 Huntsville. He was talking about how dumb the Ole Miss admin must think the press and NCAA are.

Here is a man who cheated on his wife and family and knowingly made fools of those friends who believed in him. Now they will still argue that when Hugh was head coach he was as pure as the driven snow, would never cheat or do anything wrong. It was that Nutt fellow and that other coach, who is also suing.

Really, is anyone going to buy into that?

That is going to be one AWKWARD meeting; be like taking your ex-wife you cheated on to a job interview as a character reference.

It was interesting they did not fire him for cheating, er ..... ask him to resign for cheating. I wonder if they will now use this to beg for mercy from the NCAA. You know, as in we were fooled completely by Freeze. We are guilty but have mercy on us for being such fools to believe him. We didn't mean to. That is what I would do.

Ole Miss has built its entire defense--as it relates to the charges it is contesting--on the fact that rogue assistant coaches (Farrar and others) colluded and deliberated deceived Freeze and the athletic department, acting behind their back and breaking the rules despite a very rigid and effective compliance system [insert chuckle here]. They aren't going to deviate from that defense in a hastily arranged press conference just a few weeks after submitting their responses to the NCAA. They would essentially be calling themselves liars. I almost think they would have to fire Bjork too in order to change tactics here. I get the sense that Ole Miss just wants this done and over with so they can move on, and any change in posture might cause delays that might stretch this thing out past their coaching search and another signing day.

Again, I'm referring to his hiring at LSU.

He didn't stand out - he wasn't given the hype of (for example) Urban Meyer, when he bolted Utah to Florida or Chris Petersen when he went to Washington.

Again folks - who aren't following closely - I'm referring to his hiring AT LSU, not his hiring here. And there is a thread out there that would embarrass a lot of folks when Saban came here, lots of "I don't want him here" comments.

Saban is literally the only guy we've hired post-Bryant that I wanted at the time he came here, and I never dreamed it could reach THIS level.

But at LSU? Again, I'm not saying he was even viewed as a BAD hire, I'm saying nothing stood out about him and said, "This is the guy who is going to win a national championship at LSU." Nothing.

I met the late, great bayoutider on Sunday, August 19, 2001, outside a Taco Bell in Lake Chuck. Both of us - and he was man enough to admit it on here later - both of us keeled over in laughter because he said living there they all thought Saban was the greatest thing since sliced bread (and, of course, we laughed about UAB).

And ftr - I don't think the probation argument at Mich St carries a lot of weight because he took the job here knowing we were still in a critical window.

No, Saban was NOT viewed as a bad hire by LSU, but nothing suggested he'd be that good that quick, either. That's all I'm saying.
You are surrounded by all that great food - and meet at a Taco Bell? :eek2::eek2:

C'mon, Selma, you're smarter than that - Michigan State and Alabama are on two different planets wrt football and the ability to absorb probation, sanctions, etc. And thats ignoring the fact that Saban was a decade older and more experienced when he came to Bama.

If the internet is to be believed, and right now, I'm ready to believe it all, Hugh Freeze may be the worst human being I've ever had the displeasure of seeing on a TV screen. I mean, it's one thing to be an unapologetic scumbag like a Lane Kiffin or B. Petrino. If you hire a guy like that to run your organization, you know what you're getting and you (and everyone else) knows the deal you're making.

Mr. Freeze wrapped himself in religion and bore false witness against others, all while holding himself and program out as shinig examples of purity. How he can shave in the morning without cutting his own throat is baffling to me. I could not live with myself if I had betrayed my wife, daughters and everything and everyone I ever knew. Seriously, if I woke up one day in his shoes, I'd have to be committed - suicide watch. If I had been a father of one of those Memphis girls, he might have lived but he'd never walk again. This is one for the mental illness textbooks. Rush Propst looks like a saint compared to this rat.

Personally, I`ll be stunned if they don`t. I imagine they`ll use Freeze as a punching bag for all they`re worth. Don`t know how much good it`ll do, though.

Rush Propst had two families at once, Hugh Freeze at the moment only has called prostitutes. I don't see how Freeze is worse unless the Briarcrest stuff is real than Propst.

I think the only thing I can give Rush is that he didn't try to hide behind a "holier than thou" facade like Freeze. Rush was pretty upfront that wins were more important than the kids.

That's kinda why them being hit with LIOC is a beg deal - you can't beg your way out of that one if you cannot disprove the allegations. If they walk in with that defense they're outright admitting to LOIC...

I guess that is right. But with the NCAA track record you can't be really sure.

I see a few comments that Freeze betrayed his wife and daughters by calling the escort service(s). Has it been determined he was calling on his own behalf? OTOH has it been determined he was not calling on the behalf of recruits?

Well, you would normally expect such calls to take place with local escorts in and around Oxford, as opposed to local escorts in and around other towns Freeze is currently or about to be visiting.

No, not yet. However, Bjork even acknowledged a "pattern of behavior." That suggests this wasn't a lone incident.
